1st trip to India. British Airways?
I'm planning our first trip to India in February next year. I've been keeping an eye on the flight prices for a while and they seem to be staying the same so I think I'm going to book soon.
Me and my 9 year old daughter will be travelling from the North East of England. I think these flights look like a good option but would appreciate some opinions from more experienced travellers (I haven't evern flown outside of Europe since childhood!).
British Airways: Newcastle to Delhi
Departing Newcastle at 0800 and arriving in Heathrow at 0915
2hr 25m in Heathrow
Departing Heathrow 11.40 and arriving Delhi 01.25 (local time)
Return
Delhi to Newcastle
Departing Delhi 07.05 arriving in Heathrow 11.00 (local time)
1hr 40m in Heathrow
Departing Heathrow 12.40 arriving in Newcastle 13.55
Cost £1144
What are British Airways like to fly with?
I like these flight times because I'm leaving Newcastle first thing on the way there, only have a short stopover in Heathrow, and we'll arrive in Delhi in darkness and be able to go straight to bed once we reach the guesthouse, which I'm sure e'll be ready for after a long day of travelling and will hopefully help us adjust to the time zone fairly easily...wishful thinking?
Coming home again an early morning flight and short stopover in Heathrow, but we arrive in Newcastle in the daylight giving me time to get us home before dark.
So do you think this is good or would you suggest an alternative? The other options from Newcastle seem to be Emirates, but all flights have stopovers in Dubai in the middle of the night. Or KLM which is slightly more expensive, seemingly worse flight times (to my inexperienced eye) and no benefits, unless someone can tell me that it is a significantly better airline to travel with?

try Skyscanner and Southall Travel to see what prices they can offer.(apologies if you have already done this).
others may come up with other flight search engines you can use.
Etihad andTurkish Airlines are 2 other competitive airlines but don't know what connections would be like getting from Newcastle to Heathrow/Manchester.

Price and flight times aside, (only you can judge that), British Airways are a very good airline to fly with. So are Emirates, but I think their rapid growth is having a negative effect on service levels. I haven't flown KLM. This is your first international trip ? All airlines feel the same in coach
The choice of food in Economy is going to be limited - They add an extra option in the India portion of the journey.
To many the jetlag is always an issue, it takes a day or two off their schedule.

I've flown Heathrow - Delhi six times with BA in the last three years and would definitely recommend them. Good flight times (for me) have always been on time and I've found their service at both airports and on the flights very good. I even got upgraded to business class on my return flight last Saturday!
I always compare prices when booking flights but have found BA to be one of the cheapest direct flight each time. Sometimes Air India is a bit cheaper but their flight times aren't as convenient for me.

Thankyou for the replies.
dan bushell: I had already tried flightscanner but Southall travel is coming up with the same price as well, which is the same on the BA website. I had thought about looking for flights from other UK airports but for the added hassle of getting there (plus the cost involved) it doesn't really seem worth it.
nycank: my first time outside of Europe since I was a young teen
The only experience of jetlag I have is from then, waking up starving in the middle of the night after coming home from the USA. I am a shift worker though so I'm hoping that swinging between between nightshift and dayshift on a weekly basis is good preparation; and my daughter is one of those kids who will keep going and keep going with no signs of tiredness and then crash out as soon as she lies down (or gets in the car!)....I'm trying to convince myself we will cope absolutely fine!
So if BA is a reasonable option I think I'm going to book the flights! I was all geared up to do it tonight and then realised the money is in my savings account!
