Great! We saw baby Red-Backsides at a hotel we stayed at in Pondicherry last year. The nest was in the hotel courtyard, and we showed such an interest that the mum put on a perfect "I've got a broken wing" act for us.
Two other birds we have are sunbirds and ashen prinia. very small birds with very loud voices! Not forgetting the sparrows, dear little things --- and the crows.

Yes, ashy prinias are lovely arent they? We have loads of sparrows, we have a couple of feeders and a little swing put out for them. However, they are traitors. During Navarathri, they disappear to partake of all the nearby temple offerings which are undoubtedly tastier than the millet we put out for them. But they do come back eventually. We used to get munias but I havent seen them around for quite a while and the baya weavers from the tree across the road have disappeared altogether. Inevitable I suppose, with the never ending construction activity. In Madras, you must get lots more birds, squirrels etc as it is much greener than Mumbai.
BTW, Red backside is lovingly referred to as red a--e by my hubby! |
