The female sunbirds are not so brightly and contrastingly coloured as the males. Also, it depends on how the sun strikes them as to what colour you see, as that electric colour is is caused by refraction.

Another sunbird has less refraction, but a wonderful contrast between yellow chest and black back.

The first is an Indian Tree Pie and the second looks like an Indian robin female.

Thank you so much Nick. It was roaming about in the backtard. Maybe because I have started clicking them more I see them more but this year it has been raining birds. The whole area is full of purple sunbirds too.
