Wayanad vs Mudumalai
Hi,
I've got about 3 days for visiting these parks (one of them or both). So I must decide how to distribute this time : visit only one park (which one is better?) or try to see both - 2 days in one and 1 day in another. They are relatively close to each other, but I don't know if the nature (scenery, animals, etc) is nearly the same or quite different. |

I got a easy solution for you...
Spend 1.5 days in Wayanad and 1.5 days in Mudumalai. That way you will do justice to both the parks. On a serious note: Wayanad park is not the same as Mudumalai. Wayanad is Huge than mudumalai. |

wyanad is a structured area with estates. predominantly coffee, spices, betel nut, timber, jackfruit etc.where as mudumalai is a forest.i am not sure 3 days will justify as you might end up just travelling and not enjoy the beauty of neither flora nor fauna
wyanad is also relatively less polluted Last edited by aruna64 : Oct 30th, 2009 at 13:56. Reason: addinng info |

@edoq,
If you are interested only in Wildlife, I would Say "Tholpetty WLS" and "Muthanga Sanctuary" of Wayanad is better than Mudumalai NP. And Bandipur [10 kms from Mudumalai] is less crowded and chances are there to see some animals in that 10 kms stretch itself. Nagarahole NP is more Virgin with very less tourists compared to Mudumalai Or Bandipura NP. And as you might already know, Summer and Drier months are best for Animal Sightings in all of the above mentioned sanctuaries and Post Monsoon Months are best to see the Forests in it's full Glow and it will be a treat to eyes with relatively less probability of Animal Sightings. And Normally speaking, maximum chance is there to see Elephants, Deers,Monkeys, Peacock, Wild Boar,Bison and Cheetah / Tiger sightings are very rare. Velu |

My take
Last month I did Wyanand and Nagerhole. Did not go to mUdumalai. I wanted to spend much time for wildlife and also see other stuff in the hours not viewing wildlife. That combo worked for me because of the estates and plantaions.
I stayed in Nagerhole and went to Wayanand. I know they are in the same Niligiri Biosphere. In my situation I saw more animals in Nagerhole than in Wayanand, but then on another day it might have been different. I was happy with my choice of Nagerhole; less crowded and frankly was a ajoy to be not bothered but enjoy wildlife.
