Watch Towers in Periyar Reserve

Hi everybody,

I've read that there are 2 watch towers in Periyar where you can stay overnight. They are at Edappalayam and Manakkaval. But I couldn't find proper info about them. Is there anyone here who stayed there, or at least been to Periyar Reserve and seen these towers? At the official site there is only a small photo and no info. I wonder is it worth staying there? We're planing to book them for 2 or 3 nights with my wife. And I wish to capture some photos if I get lucky. So which tower is better and is it safe to leave the tower and wonder around, etc, whatever you know

Hi

See my old posts about staying at Manakaavala. Wonderful, wonderful.

However, it's a forest rest house, not a watch tower. When I saw the watch tower in 2004 it had been destroyed by wild elephants!!

If you need more info let me know. We're currently in Rajasthan so it may take me a day or two to reply.

Thank you Nick-H, been a watcher long enough its time to write something

Mikewill,
I've read about the forest rest houses, they are really great but that watch tower idea gets me. I have 2005 eddition guides, they talk about the towers but there is nothing on forest department web site. Maybe they all rotted down, don't know. But I would be glad if someone can find some information about them.

Love
