Cost of a game drive or jeep safari?

@wichy #15,

I plan to go to Gir early in Dec 2012. Do you mind telling me about the cost of a game drive, and, if at all possible, broken down into park entry permit, gypsy, driver, private guide, official guide and camera fee. Presumably, the owner will arrange for all these; and you don't need to queue up outside Sinh Sadan each day at 5 a.m. for the permit(s).

Thank you.

Wish you a good trip and a nice staying in Parmar Farmhouse. For me it was the highlight of my trip

I'm quoting our reply to a similar question last year (from here:Sasan Gir for a first timer.)
Our visit was in November 2010:

Prices are indeed higher on the weekend, and prices for foreigners are markedly higher than for Indians.

We stayed at Gir Birding Lodge, right at one entrance to the park. The Lodge offered to arrange our fees and transportation, but our driver arranged for it separately and much more cheaply.

At Sasan Reception Centre we paid the following:
Rs 2500 weekend rate per safari
Rs 0800 for jeep and driver
Rs 0100 for required guide (naturalist)
Rs 3400 TOTAL per safari, which may be shared between 6 people.

(By comparison, the Lodge wanted Rs 4300 for the same package but the jeep would pick us up at the Lodge rather than our having to get to the Reception Centre.)

Note also that there is a charge of Rs 500 per camera over 7 megapixels per safari (this includes cellphones).

As our visit was part of a longer journey with car and driver, we cannot help with advice on how to get there. Depending on your finances, though, you might consider hiring a car and driver for a day trip through your Ahmedabad hotel.

If you have any sort of luck seeing game, you should find the trip worth it - check posts #3043-3045 in the link:

Cost of jeep safaris arranged by Parmar FH

@hfot2 #12,

Thanks. I'd already been to the links you mentioned in #12.

I'm sorry not to have made it clearer in my post #11. I'm considering staying at Parmar FH (as wichy, banjaara, etc did) whilst at Gir. I'd like to know how much they charge for arranging game drives as I don't want to queue outside Sinh Sadan every day at 05:00 for the permit(s). Moreover, a good and experienced guide/driver is key to the success or otherwise of any game drive, luck set aside.

jkccheng, actually I don't remember even approximately the price we paid. If I find my notebook from that year trip (I always try to write down everything about money but sometimes it's not easy ) - I'd let you know.
Past the point of no return...
