Tigers and Wildlife Safaris in August?
First timer here (I promise to contribute photos and stories on my return!)
Are safaris open in August during the monsoon? I understand that the chance to see a tiger is very rare, but is there any place in particular that would be open during the early august? or does the monsoon shut everything down? If I could only go to one nature reserve in August where would you all suggest? Many Thanks in advance! Spitty |

Most wildlife parks in India are open between October and April only.

Thought of Sharing what I know on south Indian Sanctuaries as DW & FOI posts relate more on North Indian Sanctuaries I suppose !
South indian sanctuaries are not closed during Monsoon Months [ For Eg.August, september months]. Normally south indian sanctuaries were closed during the dry months [April /May] due to water scarcity ! [ That too, the dates & period were decided based on the situation every year and it's not fixed as such]. This Water scarcity and dry season normally prevails in Tamilnadu part of the sanctuary [ Read Mudumalai Sanctuary] and in Karnataka [ Bandipura WLS, Nagarahole NP ] and Kerala Sides [ Muthanga WLS , Tholpetty WLS] this "Water Scarcity" is rare and last year from Aug-2007until today, none of these sanctuaries were closed for any reasons! Karnataka WLS & Kerala WLS are closed rarely in case of heavy Rains / Flooding & This year till now it's very very scanty rainfall in Coorg [ Karnataka] , Wayanad [ Kerala] regions where these sanctuaries are situated and hence "Monsoon" might not be an issue [ I am Telling based on today's Situation anyway] Spittymcgee, But South Indian Sanctuaries might not interest you as tiger sighting is very rare in South indian sanctuaries ! Hope this helps |
