The sad story of Broken Tail

Broken Tail's Last Journey

"Broken Tail's heartbreaking story will distill all of the tragedies now facing wild tigers, a disaster that India and the world seem unwilling to face up to. Today, some of India's premiere tiger reserves contain no tigers at all a fact the authorities just cannot face up to. Advertisements and websites remain unchanged as if business continues as usual, and many hapless visitors still arrive to see tigers that don't exist. The story of a lost tiger on the run, and a man on a mission to expose the plight of India's last surviving wild tigers, Broken Tail's Last Journey is both compelling and tragic."

Tears

Brought much sadness and tears. I wish more can be done by preservation and educational agencies, the government and private enterprise.

We can make a difference by not polluting the environment, may be in this way we can not save the disappearing Tigers but we can save our planet, for our future generations.

It looks fascinating & with lots of Ranthambore footage. Colin Stafford-Johnson was one of the cinematographers deployed for BBC's Planet Earth series. This doc reairs Thursday night, October 29th on CBC @ 10pm eastern for Canadians. Thanks Sama, great find!

Third time I tried to watch the promo; just not working for me.

Wonder if they will show it on Indian channels and when.

I posted this as a new thread and then saw this thread. Anyways somber but hopeful libk on tiger preservation. Unsure how different this is from rhetoric of previous years and decades

Crossing the Line Films was the producer & would most likely have some sort of public information available on future viewings by date/country - if queried.

Truly heartbreaking

Thanks for posting, Sama. If you or anyone else comes across a listing for the U.S, please do share because I'd love to watch it.

Just watched it - not as much an animated wildlife documentary as it is a let's secure more uninhabited land in India (while it still is uninhabited) to save this cat before it's too late pitch. Too little footage of Ranthambore and too much camera time of Stafford-Johnson (host/cinematographer) & his Indian guide yaking & riding on horseback in attempts to retrace the steps of Broken Tail's last days. 5/10.

Here's a link to The Hindu's original story on the tiger's tragic end. Tiger Meets A Tragic End - Jul 13th/2003

heart goes out on the death of such a beautiful animal. Unfortunately, even after getting a lot of money for preservation of these animals, still we are losing them very fast.

India is a human making factory. Although the countries population density is only ranked 30th in the world, the main tiger habitat & prospective tiger habitat is under increasing encroachment from the general population & the existing national parks have little enforcement for human infiltration of these borders - be it for wood gathering, herding, poaching etc. These facts do not bode well for the tiger's future.

It does mention at the end of this film, that upon hearing of Broken Tail's plight, Sonia Gandhi had Darra Sanctuary designated a National Park & that Ramgarh Sanctuary is being assessed as a potential tiger reserve.

That's fine, a good (re)start, and looks great on paper but they have to keep the humans out, the poachers locked up or increase the intensity of the current slap on their wrist, & increase the tiger's private land grant twenty-fold of this - pronto! - to have any hope in hell of saving these big cats.
