@Nick . Yes , it will bite if you step on it. So be careful. Though not venomous the bite is painful. In fact a couple of weeks before my mother-in-law got multiple bites from the same species , ha ha ha , sorry. She has survived the harrowing experience though.

It is rainy season, although not much rain for that day. There is a flooded, vacant, overgrown plot next door where all sorts of things may live. We have dissuaded labourers from the house behind it stacking wood against our wall, and we probably should check for bridging branches.

As I say, I'm surprised that we don't see more snakes. Although we do occasionally see a mongoose. Sadly, the crows are against the mon-gooses/geese, and the crows generally have the last say as to what gets to live in our garden.

Somnath, sorry about your MIL. Hope she's healed up well. This snake was very shy, and hid its head in a hole when disturbed. I think it had a just-eaten lump: do they get sluggish when they are digesting?

Yes they indeed get a bit sluggish while digesting. If need arises for fast movement, they often regurgitate food.

Absolutely. Once a big snake ate something huge and sat right at my main entrance inside a wire roll that I had got to do fencing. We used to have morning tea together, he mostly watched though. After a week, it left, and my fencing was finally done.

Honestly, I did, but it gave me such a cold look that basically said 'get lost'. It took me months to come out of the psychological trauma caused by the rejection.

Our snake was seen strolling around in the garden today. Our maid called, and I grabbed the camera, but missed it.
