Logistics

I did not realize that I have not shared the Logistics details at all.

1-How to travel from Chandrapur to Tadoba and cost for the same.

The best option is to travel by a cab which must be pre-booked. It is around 25 Kms distance and AC Indica will cost you 9/- per km and they will charge for both ways so it should cost you around 500/-.

2-How to book MTDC guest house and if not which are the budget accomodation available .

MTDC can only be booked online, check the official website of Maharashtra tourism here:
http://www.maharashtratourism.gov.in...dex/Index.aspx

All other resorts are overly priced in Moharli, unless you are able to do some really hard bargaining. There are Saras Resorts, Tiger Trails Resorts and Royal Tiger Resorts, search online and I think you'd be able to find their websites, but as I mentioned, they are costly and MTDC is the cheapest option there. Try to book the MTDC as soon as possible as people prefer it the most. AC room is 1700 per night in MTDC.

3-How to book the safaris and the cost involved .

Safari can be booked through the following local driver Ravi. His brother Bantu is the guide and there is another driver called Roshan, they 3 make a great team.
Ravi's contact number - 09595390291
They'll only need ur Pan card number and no advance payment is necessary.

Cost:
Per safari cost is : 700 for all the fees + 1500 for every gypsy so 2200/ per safari
Plus Ravi will charge a service tax of 100/- per safari so a total of 2300/- per safari. All other agents charge more as the service charge.

If you speak to Ravi, you can refer my name. He can also arrange pickup and drop from/to Chandrapur, that won't be any issue.

Note - advance booking is open from 28 days before the safari date, so get in touch with Ravi accordingly, the safaris get filled up pretty fast during peak season.

Hi Saugata41!

This thread of yours is lying inactive since mid-2012. Yet I choose to post my question on this thread hoping that you(and/or anyother knowledgeable IMers) will be kind enough to respond. Now my questions are as follows:

1. I understand the nearest Rail Station to Tadoba Sanctuary is a place called Chandrapur, which is stated to be only 45 KMs away. But in the IR Time Table, I could not find any Station called Chandrapur. However, there is a Station called Chandrapur Maharashtra. I wonder whether this is the same Station which is stated to be the nearest rail head for Tadoba?

2. I have no idea what type of infrastructure this place (Chandrapur) has got though it looks like a District Headquarters and there are quite a few Hotels in that place. If the visitors choose to check in some Hotel in Chandrapur town, then hire a cab/Gypsy and go for a day long (both morning and evening safari) trip to Tadoba, thereafter night halt at the same Hotel and leave the place by the next morning train to Nagpur? Will it be feasible to get a Guide and Cab/Gypsy from Chandrapur town or it had to be requisitioned all the way from Tadoba? Is this a OK proposition or is this something absurd and not feasible?

3. If this is okay, can you suggest some budget Hotel at Chandrapur? May be your Guide (referred by you in your TR) can be of some help?

Your suggestions and advise please. Thanks.

1) Chandrapur (is abbreviated as CD in IRCTC booking) is about 200 Kms from Nagpur (on the Nagpur - Warangal - Hyderabad & Chennai route)
2) It is better to stay at Moharli (40 Kms from Chandrapur) if you are entering from the Moharli gate. Because the safari starts at 6 am and it is better to be among the first to enter the park (because the tiger prefers to walk along the road / jungle track during the night or early morning) and you might encounter a tiger on the road itself.
3) It is better to take the Gypsy (available at the forest entry gate) for the safari as you can get a much wider & clearer view of the forest. Also photographers can have a good time in an open jeep.
4) Guide will be allocated at the forest entry gate only
5) There are resorts available at Moharli (MTDC and some private resorts) which are decent
6) ANOTHER OPTION is to take a train to Nagpur. Moharli gate is about 165 Kms and Kolara gate is about 110 Kms from Nagpur.
7) Kolara also has some decent accommodation (Chava Kolara resort, MTDC FDCM etc)

Regards
Venkat

In my view TATR is the only Tiger Reserve where chance of sighting a Tiger is much higher than any other TR. This is what I have seen in TATR both in still and video.

TATR planning

I have already booked for 2 nights at MTDC resort at Mohurli. And I shall book 4 safaris online as soon as it is available.

Please clarify the following doubts.

Should I book all the safaris from the Mohurli gate ? Booking from other gates are also possible online.

How should I arrange the Jeep for the safaris? Will the MTDC resort people help ?

I am planning to go from Nagpur to Chandrapur by train. Will it be difficult to arrange a cab to the MTDC resort from Chandrapur rail station?

1) It is better to book from Moharli gate IF YOU ARE STAYING AT MOHARLI
2) The distance between the various gates is more (and may require additional 1 ~ 2 hours to reach other gate from Moharli. Also after you exit from another gate, you will have to spend the another 1 ~ 2 hours to reach your lodge / resort)
3)You can book online for the safari at http://www.mahaecotourism.gov.in/Sit...eBooking1.aspx
http://www.mahaecotourism.gov.in/Sit...onalParks.aspx
MTDC resort booking can be done at above website
MTDC persons may help you with a safari booking
4) Taxi's are available from Chandrapur to Moharli (about 45 Kms)
5) If you are planning to stay at Kolara (Chava Kolara resort, or MTDC FDCM) then it is better to go from Nagpur to Kolara (about 115 Kms)
6) ALL SAFARI's (whether starting at Moharli or Kolara or other 3 gates) can access all parts of the TATR (Tadoba, Moharli, Kolsa part of the forest) especially during morning safari which lasts for 4.5 ~ 5 hours (against afternoon safari which lasts for 3 ~ 3.5 hours)

Regards
Venkat
