I'm visiting Tadoba in late January/early February. I'm thinking of splurging and booking either Irai Safari Retreat by the Moharli Gate or Svasara Jungle Lodge by the Kolara Gate.

The main reason for going is to spot a tiger, of course, and hopefully it can be done on at least one of the four safaris that we take while there. Which side is better for seeing tigers?

Go for Moharli Gate, much better in terms of Tiger sighting.

Hi,
Anyone who was in Tadoba during moonson when only Moharli gate is open? Is it still cool experience? How many rides should we book than not to go too much on the same teritory?

In addition - can anyone provide us with contact to the park itself? When we were in Rathambore we booked safari in the park, in the government agency, withouth any travel agencies or middleman. Is it possible to do the same in Tadoba?

Both gates are good and offer excellent viewing ... Difficult to rate one as better than another...i suggest you just choose the accomodation which you find better ...

I have been to tadoba in end august and was lucky to spot scarface next to the road but actually since only a single straight road is open to vehicles ,it is much less fun than at other times.

Go via Mohurli Gate which is better option for tiger sightings.

Tiger sighting is a matter of chance but sightings were good during monsoon too.

Maharashtra has started with online booking of safari after long time. Here is the link. http://mahaecotourism.gov.in/Site/Co...onalParks.aspx
For gypsy you need to contact a private guy. This online booking is not like Ranthambore. I go regularly with a guy who is one of the best and also know many gypsy fellows there.

HI,

You can take your daughter in the Forest if there is no other option but generally Kids make lot of noise in Jungle which is very much disturbing for other tourists. over there many of the tourists are the Photographers who have landed there from all the corners of India and also abroad. kids get irritated and bored because most of the time there is nothing to do but to sit in the moving gypsy. there is not guarantee of Animals and as per rules Guides will not allow to stop the Gypsy near one animal group for more than 10 minutes. I have visited many of the Indian jungles including Tadoba five times. I have always seen kids shouting loudly and fighting with each other in Gypsy or crying loudly in the jungle when others are waiting silently for the animals to come and photograph. Because the Safari timings are very early and you have to awake the kids at 5AM then only you can go for the 6AM safari. You start getting the side effects of lesser sleep from them at around 8AM.

You should take kids who can understand and obey "Shhhhhhh...." One of my friend had a 16-18 Months old Baby boy in our Gypsy at Tadoba only and he wanted to go to the Hotel immediately and the way he was crying and shouting was horrible. we had to finish the safari at 8:45AM. Kids get annoyed in Jungle and we can not expect patience or waiting game from kids.

I would suggest try avoid to take your kid in Jungle because there is huge difference in Animal park and Core area of Jungle. It can be very very dangerous also .. Watch this full video (
)

but if no option then carry at least 4 Bottles of water and enough ParleG packets. make sure you keep the empty bottles and biscuit papers in Gypsy only.

All the best!

How have been the sightings recently, especially in the North i.e. near Kolara gate? I am planning to visit in early June.

I had fantastic sightings a couple of years back. Then last year I went in October, when the park had just opened - stayed in Moharli. The sightings were disappointing, even though the forest was beautiful.

Tadoba Tiger Reserve land of Tiger

Tadoba Tiger reserve India is real land of tigers in India. Highest number of tigers are alive in the park. You can enjoy the ride of jungle lodge during your visit to parks. You can get easily accommodation services at Tadoba.

HI Paulomi

You have to book the train tickets first (90days in advance) then Stay (90days in advance) and then Gate Booking. (60days in advance)

Dont cancel your trip.. If you are staying at Navegao then you have to enter from Navegaon Gate only. Its not possible you stay at Navegaon and enter from any other gates. Its not possible logistically.

By the way whole Jungle is accessible from all the gates. you can go anywhere to anywhere .. Sighting is totally depending on your luck. Gates are just entry points. If you are getting good deals then stay at any gate this time.

Moharli Gate is always crowded than any other gates. Also the major core areas of Jungle (pandharpouni/ Katezari/Tadoba lake) are closer to Navegao gate than Moharli gate so please go ahead and stay at Navegao.

I have visited Tadoba 10 times. Do let me know if I can help.

regards

Thanks for the reply. As you mentioned I am late for booking everything.I got the transportation and accomodation but no safari at any point, so no use traveling all the way from ahmedabad.
I have been to tadoba once in full summer, it was extremely hot but I had very good viewing 3 tigers, a leopard, bear in 2 diff safari and also packs of wild dogs and wild buffalo .all in all very good experience. Many birds too like paradise fly catcher and racket tailed drongo.
Is there any other way to book safari? If yes then pls give the information.

Sorry to say if the Safaris are not booked then you can not do anything. There is no thing called Tatkal system .. But still if you want to visit Tadoba then all the Buffer zones are always open for tatkal booking. Many people get to see good Tigers in buffer zone also. (Devada and Agarzari buffer)

Also If you want to take a chance then Bus safari is always open for all. its like 20 people in one open Bus .. See the bus picture here I have taken it from internet.

Last time we didnt see any tigers but all the BUS safari people got to see Tigers everyday. If you are in Gypsy then you have to come back to the gate by 6:00PM but if you are in Bus then Bus comes at the gate at 7.00 PM

So there are more chances to see animals in th bus.

rest up to you.. All the best.

regards
