I have a booking on Sultan FRH (Dhikala Zone) Jim Corbett. After booking, I realized that they dont have Canteen Facility. I will be travelling with my 4 years old daughter, and now I am concerned with our stay because of this. Please suggest, what option can I think about.

Hi,

You need to carry vegetables , spices , oil etc & caretaker will prepare meal for you . Your gypsy driver can guide you to buy all these from local market at Ramnagar

Sultan FRH provides a wonderful peaceful stay, just buy some vegetables, bread or a kg of flour and other thing that you might want to eat from Ramnagar market. The caretaker at FRH will prepare the food for you.
If you find my posts confrontationist, please bear, I am an old frustrated guy who has nothing better to do than sit on rocking chair and curse the world whole day

You could take some provisions and pay the caretakers a little to rustle up something for you. Alternatively, you can go to the Dhikala canteen for breakfasts and tea, but that will take away from your touring time. Or cancel Sultan and stay at Dhikala.

Thanks Vishwa for your suggestion.

I tried cancelling Sultan FRH but unable to do so online. Also, Dhikala availability is not there & I think its pretty difficult to book it. How can I book a Safari Jeep. Do I need to do it from Corbett Office or online. And any idea about Elephant Safari inside the forest.

Gypsy can be hired from private operators at Ramnagar. You can either make advance booking through different online portals or book a Gypsy from Ramnagar, once you reach there. Corbett Park authority does not provide Gypsy booking facility.

Elephant safari is conducted from Dhikala only ( & only in the morning session from 7 am approx ).You can book Elephant Safari from Reception of Dhikala FRH one day in advance. So make an afternoon safari to Dhikala from Sultan ( approx one & a half hours ) & book the elephant safari if tickets are available . Again make another Morning Safari ( Next Day ) from Sultan to Dhikala to do the Elephant Safari

Bookings cannot be cancelled.Booking once done is frozen. This is actually good as it prevents fake booking by agents.

Get Safari Jeep from Ramnagar. You can contact Mr. Nandan Mehta (9411166758). He will provide safari vehicle. Take vegetable, oil, rice etc from outside.

Elephant Safari you can get in Dhikala. Go in morning and see if it is available. Or else pre book afternoon.

The two are 25 km apart. At an average of 30 km/hr, that's 50 mins one way.

Used to be one could always take one's own vehicle into the park, and also use it for safaris. Is that no longer the case?

I know. Been there done that, when staying at Gairal (which is near Sultan). We take a meal break after the morning safari and hang out at Dhikala during the afternoon curfew hpurs. There are enough lovely walks and views from the lodge.

Gairal is pretty far away from Dhikala. Most people get out in the morning, do the morning safari close to Dhikala, stay on for lunch, do the evening safari and go back to Gairal. However sightings are rocking in Gairal just now and Gairal safaris are as good as Dhikala. So you may not be totally dependent on Dhikala. Gairal has a canteen as well, not sure if they run a movie. I dont think it will be possible for you to drive back from Dhikala after the short film. It is very dark and dangerous.

Plenty of drivers. Ask around, once u get to Ramnagar or fix up before hand. There is no change with the number of people. I think rates differ as per the FRH in which you are putting up. Dhikala is probably the cheapest. It is not on basis of kilometers driven. There is no fixed rate, bargain. I paid Rs 6500 for two nights/3days in Dhikala.

No they do not. You can pretty go anywhere you want as long as you follow the timings. However drivers will not really drive you around too much.

No idea

Should be possible.

Hope this helps

In all the years that I've been going, private cars have to be parked at the main Dhangadi gate. See pics here:

Even though they are far apart, the drive itself is a safari. Its all in a jungle. So no difference. This monsoon was really good and expect the dam to be very full. We did the safari in Dhikala zone with sightings in Mota Sal Road at dhikala. Stay was at Sultan. See the photo blog.

Only govt authorised safari vehicles are allowed inside.

Yes, I think private vehicles are not allowed in dhikaka / bijrani / jhirna now.

I know. I've stayed at both (in one trip). My point was that it's a long way to go for a cup of tea. Unless one hangs around Dhikala during the day, as Vishva suggests.

Thank you all for your suggestion. This is first time I will using FRH. Not sure if it would be enjoyable for me & my family especially for my 4 years old daughter. It would be great if any one can suggest all the things that must to be carried with me there. And, will the Safari Driver stay with me all the time to commute during my stay incase I need to travel Gairal for meal or Dhikhala for Elephant ride. If any one can also share the pics of Sultan FHR.

Thanks Guys

The driver will stay with you all the time. You might have to pay for his meals. Sort all this out before hiring.
