i want info on Simlipal too.
all i know is, you have to go to balasore/ baleshwar??? (the beach chandipur is near there. And i had one of the most memorable prawn encounter of my life there) From there you could go by the public transport bus or hire a private vehicle. its around 150 KMs from there?? And there is a forest guest house with very basic facilities in the middle of the forest. you could get a reservation thru contacting the forst office?? i don't think they have electricity and the local caretaker provides homefood, unless you want to organise a barbeque??? you need the forest jeep to move around in the forest. It is supposed to be very beautiful. Lot of native villages also in the forest area i think. but as you can see all my info is very vague. Anyone been there can tell us more!!! Or google! anyone? |

I doubt if you'll find any directions there but for reading about tribal culture in Orissa I hear Norman Lewis's *A Goddess in the Stones* is supposed to be really good.
A Google search on Similipal (watch your spelling) will give you plenty of hits, starting with http://www.odissi.com/orissa/places/similipal.htm , http://www.wildlifeorissa.org.in/SIMILIPALBIOSPHERE.htm and http://www.panthanivas.com/simlipal1.html to name but the first three of some 1200+. Good luck with it, sounds like an exciting destination.

nb In fact two female friends of mine bicycled around several tribal villages in Orissa using Lewis's book as their guidebook mostly, they had a great time from what I hear.
