Riding Elephants

We will be visiting Delhi in December and I'm having a difficult time figuring out how to fit in an elephant ride within reasonable reach of Delhi. Can anyone suggest anything? Thanks so much.

If you learn about the cruelties a pet elephant has to go through at the hands of his Mahout in a country like India where laws protecting animals are very weak, I am sure you will like to reconsider your innocent wish

Any elephant that is kept in a city or within easy reach of a city for example those in Rajastan tourist hot spots means severe cruelty against the animal.
How could one get enjoyment out of an elephant ride under these circumstances?

Maybe you could wait until you visit one of the better managed Indian national parks, where they also arrange for elephant rides and where it least the animals live more or less in their natural habitat.

I Did It

I concur do it in a park. I just did it last month at Nagerhole National Park, Karnataka. Anyways the ride itself was nothing to brag about. Just a small round in a circle. Far better are actual safaris on elephant back, if your own back can sustain it.
