Hi All.
Can anyone recommend reserves/National parks around India that are particuarly good for reptile activity? And which times of the year are best to check them out? Thanks, Chris |

I have a book on Indian wildlife and it say's that in winter the Keoladeo Ghana Bird Sanctuary is one place that your almost guaranteed seeing rock pytons basking on low branches oor in front of the burrows where they live.
It also says that the Irulas of Tamil Nadu are probably the best snake hunters in the world and the Irula Cooperative in Madras can be contacted for a day's snake hunt around Madras. In August at Battis Shirala near Sangli, Maharastra is nag panchmi harvest festival. Wild cobras are caught by local farmers and worshipped for a few days and then released. I once saw a documetary on this festival and it looked pretty interesting. Hope this helps. |

Rajered already mentioned it & it's hardly a reserve (all the animals are captive), but I recently gave a description of the Crocodile Bank near Chennai: Vandalur Zoo .

We visited Bhitarkanika in Orissa last January. The week before we arrived the sanctuary was closed so the guards could count the crocodiles. We were the the first boat after it reopened and according to our boats men that was one one the reason we saw quit a lot of crocodiles. I guess it were at least 20 or 30 big ones off more then three meter length and numerous smaller ones. We saw also some large lizards.
