Ranthambore National Park
I am planning to visit Ranthambore Nationa Park on my travels, in January.
What is the generasl consensors? Is it a bit of a tourist trap? Am I better of travelling further a field to visit, say, kanha Nationa Park? Also, how long will I need to spend there? |

You posted in the wrong section of this forum. Ranthambore is nowhere near Goa.
EDIT NOTE by steven_ber - thread moved. |

hey forest,
i just got back from a stay in sawai modhopur and went on safari over sunrise at ranthambhore. didn't see any tigers but i do have some advice for you: if you go in the morning, bring blankets and warm weather clothes; if you really want to see tigers, you need to go on a couple safaris to maybe catch a glimpse (right now apparently there are only 20 tigers in the entire 4000 sq km park) - a jeep safari may increase your chances of seeing one; the area of sawai is really boring - it's a small village but really caters to tourists; hotel continental sucks as a GH (communication was a real prob....). if you do continue with your plans, be sure to go to the ranthambhore fort nearby (in the park) because it was one of the most beautiful and amazing places i've been in india so far -- there are temples of the hindu, muslim, and jain faiths... it's awesome! best of luck! claire don't feed the monkeys....haha |

Ranthambore is a bore if there are not too many tigers visible and a visit to the fort is surely interesting but that's not the main reason you go there for!!! Bandhavgarh in Madhya Pradesh State is my prefered tiger reserve to see tigers and though the chances of tiger spotting increases with the increase in the temperatures in March to June it may be unbearable for you so take a mean period and go inbetween to increase your chances of sighting one in the wild. There is a fort in Bandhavgarh as well, so if you want to see tigers and forts then both these places have similar sights to see!!! There are no canters in Bandhavgarh and there is an added advantage of seeing the tigers from an elephant as well when a tiger is spotted in the morning session, besides the hour long joy ride through the jungle in the evening. Only jeeps are allowed inside so no huge buses to scare away the animals and the jeeps are more manouverable too. Hope this helps.
Cheers, Aadil.
