Ranthambhore trip report - (Dial up warning)
santos_g15,
The fee is for Video cameras. You will have to pay that for every gypsy ride i.e. twice a day (morning and evening ride). It is better to hire a gypsy for two sessions as full day gypsy is given only one route while two sessions may give you two different routes. It is a gamble :-) but I like my chances with 2 sessions.
Cheers,
Kartik

yes book two gypsies it is easier to book online, and a little cheaper also. as far as spotting a tiger is concerned is concerned it is a gamble to go on seperate routes or take the same on twice. but i advice take seperate ones as the beauty of the park is seperate in seperate routes also you dont get to c the water bodies in route 2 that u see in route 4 we spotted lots of wild life at water body in rout 4 also it is very picturesque and very long also ther were acouple of tigers around route 4 on our way back if we wait we could have spotted but since we had already seen we didnt wait much.
i paid 200 rs for video camera.

K in 25k stand for a thousand. So for our trip, 25k meant 25000 rupees per head for a group of 5 people.
I am planning another visit in Nov. or Dec, depending on the local news from Ranthambhore. Hopefully I will run into some Indiamike friends.
Cheers,
Kartik

hey kartik ,Just a small question, what was your fstop when you shot the animals.I am looking now at sigma 150 -500 which delivers ok performance at f/5.6 but is good at f/8.i know wildlife is great with wide open aperature ,it would be great if you clarify on this.is it ok to shoot on f/8.
thanks,
Santhosh

Man cool as you seen in my other thread i am planning a trip in dec between 20 -30 .let me know if you travel in these dates.we can meet over acup of chai and i can receive some good photography lessons free of cost.
Sure thing. I will post my plans once they are final. :-)
As for the F stops, I used F/6.3 (stopped down my 100-400 by one stop) most of the time. Most of the case it was good light but I did not dare to use f/8 but could have used it using higher ISO. I think you should be okay with f/8 if you have enough shutter speed. You will have to see if you like the DoF at f/8 or not though. One important thing to remember was "Expose to right" :-) and have patience.
Cheers,
Kartik

Hello Kartikp,
For the first time, I had no chance at Ranthambore. I only went to 4 safaris (normally 6 to 8) but i didn't see any tiger. I had :
- 1 time zone number 4 (the best one this season) but nothing, the only time in the week;
- 2 times zone 3 on morning, tigers were seen in the afternoon.
- 1 time zone 1, nothing to see, I have never seen something interesting in this zone on several years.
Just to say that to see a tiger at Ranthambore, you have to be on the good zone and after have luck. An american guy saw 9 tigers and 2 leopards on the same 4 safaris (3 in zone 4 and 1 in zone 2) at the same moment...
I'll come back at Ranthambore.

Didindia7, you are not alone. We were there on 13/14/15 April, six safaris in zones 3,4,1,3,2,2.
We saw 60 seconds of a tiger on the first safari (zone 3) and this was it. However it was trying to catch a Wild Boar so it was pretty exciting, especially for the Boar which got away.
After this we saw no tigers, but I hold my time at Ranthambhore as the best part of the trip - and there were some pretty good parts.
For info, we went to Sariska too and whilst we never saw a tiger a lady at our hotel who went the evening before said she saw a tiger, a leopard and a jungle cat. However she said that she told the driver that she wanted to see nothing else; what a waste!
Moral of this story is find out when I am next going and avoid the zones I'm in cos the tigers will be in the other zones.

Ha Ha Good one !!!
Seriously, at least you saw the tiger for 60s. So many people go to these sanctuaries and never see a tiger. Those who get multiple sightings of tigers are truly privileged .... and very much the exception than the norm.
Surely you would have seen other mammals / birds / insects / flora / the Milky Way ...? Where did you see that cute Monkey?

I know, 60s is better than nothing. I think half of the problem was that the sighting was on our first safari so we didn't understand how lucky we were, if it had happened on our last safari I think we would have felt more privileged.

I didn't see a Milky Way but I did have a King Tat bar.
Ranthambhore was the highlight of a very busy and exciting trip around Rajasthan. Looking at my photos now only intensifies the desire I have to return there - but not zone 1!
