Ranthambhore Online BOOKING - update thread

As there are a number of people waiting for the booking site to start working, I have started this thread so that those needing to book, can subscribe to it. If we all keep trying the site, then once the site is active, can someone please post to this thread and we will all know that the site is working.

Please do not post here unless the site is working, that way we only get the message upon activation.

Here is the link to the booking site:

If you check home page , it is clearly mentioned -"At Present Online Ticket Booking is Closed "

Just back from Ranthambhore , at forest office they mentioned that for time being online booking is closed.

absolutely messed up

I visited the park this Sunday and here is my experience:

I was waiting for the online booking to be up till Friday morning as the authority was saying that it would start working from October itself. But unfortunately it was not working and I left Kolkata on Friday morning with fingers crossed as RTDC Vinayak guys were saying that we would easily get a jeepsy as number of tourists are less than expected.

I reached Ranthambhor on 31st Oct evening and then RTDC guys at the tourist complex said getting jeepsy is bit difficult but you will get canter surely. They suggested visiting the ticket counter early in the morning around 4.30 am to get an assured jeepsy sit. We did that. After reaching the ticket counter around 4.40am the locals and the hotel agents started saying Jeepsies are full as VIPs are present (thanks to Mr. Ambani and family). At 5.30am the get opened and the jeepsy counter was completely closed saying all
Jeepsies are booked, you may avail canters only. We had no option left but to opt for canter for the morning safari. I asked the guy sitting on the jeepsy counter for advance booking of evening safari for jeepsy. He said advance will only be given after 12.30pm.

We had our safari by canter in the morning and it was a complete mess with 4 kids inside the canter shouting like anything and the sound of metal roof sheet along with diesel engine was terrific. Honestly we could not feel any wild lives and was completely disappointed.

Coming back I called the forest office over phone around 11.45am to confirm if jeepsy sit will be available. Then they said Jeepsies are full till 7th November. I was surprised and asked how advance bookings were given? There was no convincing reply from the forest officials and I had to opt for canter again in the evening safari. Although we spotted a tiger in the evening safari, but I would not recommend canters for people who really want to enjoy and feel the wild lives.

Rather I would suggest if you want assured jeepsy sit - wait for the online booking to open and only visit the park with an assured jeepsy sit.

Forest dept. won't but can we help each other?

I am one of them, who are waiting for booking to open and check their url thrice a day. What perhaps we few can do is 1. Urgently inform others when it opens.everyone leave their cell no.s here. 0 99 21 21 99 11 is mine. 2. I have booked hotel raj palace for 23rd night. I will be positively there on 24th dec 2009 for both morning & evening safaris. we are a family of 4. Firstly i will attempt to book gypsy. i need to book all 6 seats, so 2 are free with me. Any 2 with same day schedule can give me there details. At the same time I will share my details (which are must for online booking) with them. (we can even share hotel booking details for the matter)Payment we need to make is going to be any way same. we can get it back when we meet.

I finally asked my travel agent there (Namaste) to book the safaris for my husband and I through the hotel they've arranged for us. We're leaving Dec. 2 and I wanted SOME assurance that we'd get into the park when we got there. Glad, after reading spashmcpi's nightmare with the canters, that I asked them to book the jeep. Thanks to this forum, I'd already learned that the canters could be noisy.

Just in case, I've been trying to find a roughly similar alternative in case Ranthambore falls through for some reason. Is Keoladeo near enough to pose as a last minute substitute? Is it worthwhile?

Looks like we will have to do the booking through the hotel.

Can't say we are impressed with the system that smells of corruption. Can't say we are surprised either. That's the way things happen

We certainly do not want the canter, it is the gypsy or an early departure for other destinations.

Has anyone found a Ranthambhore contact that gets cheaper gypsy seats than double the price ?
