Rajaji NP or Corbett NP

Hi has anyone been to Rajij? I am considering going there since I will be in Rishikesh and it is very close. Do you know the possibility of seeing lots of wildlife? That is what I am interested in. Would love to see a tiger.

what season are you likely to be there?

I have stayed in the National park last year did get the jungle experience and spotted wild-life but no tiger. I had known that Tiger spotting is not easy even at Corbett or any othe tiger reserve...so was not even expecting to find one and therfore I was okey with the overall experience.

I would suggest don't go with much expectation and enjoy whatever comes your way

Jennyg, I have been there and its a very nice place. You certainly can't find tigers. You will find herds of elephants and the normal langur-peacock-deer family stuff. We also saw a monitor lizard. It is elephant terrain. It has very pachyderm look to it. It is very unlike corbett or Ranthambore. I think you should not miss it if you go to Rishikesh.

Just try to get a booking in the forest rest house there through the forest officer in dehradun. I didn't do it but will do it next time I go, which is very very soon.

OK thanks, I have heard that you can do day trips from Rishikesh to there, so I think I might try that because I want to go to Corbett too!

From Rishikesh its just half an hour or even less. If you are really short of time, you can go in the afternoon at around 3, take the evening safari and get out by 6:30 in the evening. I like that forest a lot because I like it no less than corbett and its not crowded.

To spot a tiger, u need loads of luck.
i think u must try Ranthambore NP or Bandhavgarh. I am told u can spot a tiger easily there.

Actually, you just can't spot a tiger in Rajaji. May be once a year some tiger might stray in from corbett. If you wanna see tigers. Ranthambore is the place to go. I saw 5 tigers in a day but I am told that hadn't happened to most of the guides there. You have the best chances in the WORLD in Ranthambore .

So is this place easy to get to? It could definately be a consideration instead of going to Corbett. Plus I hear Corbett is relatively expensive. Thanks

March is fine but any later might get hotter. It is a small park with lots of tigers. The vegetation is dry and not as dense as corbett making spotting slightly easier. If you want to see tigers this is your best chance but I know people who have been there four or five times and not seen a tiger. Everyone who goes just to see tigers gets bored. Remember that.

It is easy to get there from Delhi. I myself am planning a trip in the not too distant feature. I prefer to go there by train.

There is an overnight train to Sawai Madhavpur. From here it is a 10 minute drive to the forest resorts. This is very comfortable.

Ok that sounds good. And a tiger sighting would only be a huge bonus. I also am very interested in all the flora and fauna. I would be happy seeing a deer! But if I can go somewhere to up my tiger spotting chances I may as well.

Guys

Rajaji is a great place for day visit

For your information there is no boundary for the Wild Life

Rajaji National park to Corbett tiger reserve is all connected from with in.
To spot tigers the best place is Kalagarh Wild Life sanctuary 3 hrs drive from Rishikesh - you can spot herds of Elephants just pass through the farms.Trust me in this place your life will be at risk if you step outside the farm after 06 in the evening ( That means the Tiger is around)
I have been here and spotted Tigers in Tractor safari in the farms
Corbett is a Gimmick - Also make sure you visit Lansdowne Hill station it would be great.

goamit, this is news to me. I didn't know tigers and elephants stick around in the same place. In which direction is this Kalagarh ?. - Towards Srinagar or Tehri or somewhere else.

150 Km from DeheraDun-Haridwar-Najibabad-Kotdwara- Kalgarh Village camp
150 Km from Nanital-Kaladungi-Kashipur-Afzalgarh-Kalagarh Village camp

No Tourist facilities as such - No Organised Safaris
Only tractor safaris in the night in the farms
Night time ie sunset to sunrise you cant come on road as you are in the forest reserve
How many of you guys are going here,are you with family of friends or alone
This place is not recommended for Singles
