Dear Friends,

I am planning to visit Umred Karhandla near Nagpur.

Has anyone visited UK?.. Please guide me for good decent Hotel, Gate information or your trip experience.

regards

1) I have NOT been to Umred-Karhandla sanctuary but have read about sightings of JAI - male tiger cub of MAI the legendary tigress of Nagzira. (the sightings at Nagzira were terrific in 2012 & 2013 as MAI with her 2 male cubs JAI & VEERU were spotted very frequently during summer
2) Booking for UK can be done on the Maheecotourism website (I am sure you must be aware about it)
3) Maybe you can club UK with a visit to Kolara side of Tadoba (you pass through Umred when you drive down from Nagpur to Kolara 115 Kms)
4) UK is about 60 Kms from Nagpur
5) I am not sure but one has to stay at Umred (or maybe Nagpur outskirts)

Hi I am also interested in visiting UK as an overnight halt on the way to Kanha in early Jan. Any ideas for a s hotel/resort nearby? What about govt lodges inside the sanctuary? Some one suggested a resort in Thana? Any information?

Yes.. Will update tomorrow.
In short there is nothing much in Jungle.. I couldn't see any aninal there only one neelgai. No Tiger also. If you get to see any animal then its Tigers only. Jungle is more like mix of Pench and Tadoba.
No Hotel in Umred. But I stayed in Home stay. Very basic. Cant share there info on public forum. But will give in message. Its very basic nothing more than a shelter for night. A home of an old couple aged more than 75.
Will update full trip details sometimes soon

Some Video clips from UK had been uploaded by Ronak recently ( shot in Nov'15 ) .. He has captured some wonderful movements of Jai , T6 tigress & their two cubs . Have you heard anything about this little family ? 'Jai' moved to UK from Nagzira. When we were there during Feb '15 we had sighted Jai's mother 'Mai' ('A' Mark). Anyways thanks for the update. Waiting for a detailed report nitinule

Also you may post accommodation details here for future travelers .. Jungle lovers just want a shelter & nothing else

Yes I get regular updates from Guides and drivers over there. Now there are Approx 8 to 10 Tigers but Jai is the only dominant male right now. There are two gates. Gothangao and Karahndala Gate. We couldn't spot any Tiger but lot of pug marks all over jungle. That night Jai had killed two cattle in the nearby village. We were in Gothangao and all the Tigers were in Karakhandala. We did one safari from Karahndala and all the Tigers were in Gothangao range. So we were not lucky.
Sightings are almost every day as jungle is relatively small compared to Tadoba and Pench. But you should be in right zone

There is a homestay near Karhandla gate, visible in google map with phone number and photographs. There is also a private resort but it is beyond my budget. Gothangao apparently has some tent accommodation, arranged by Maharashtra Eco Tourism but no contact numbers are available. I called MTDC but they too were unable to help.

You mentioned you stayed at Karhandla and made one safari from Gothangaon gate. Is it far? Are transport available or did you self drive? Will wait for your response.

I stayed at Gothangao gate. We did two safaris from there, no Tiger sightings. So the third and last safari we decided to do from Karahndala gate. So after morning safari we had lunch at Gothangao and packed up our bags and left for Karahndala gate. We had called our Tavera guy early. So we put our bags in Tavera and reached Karahndala gate. We asked the tavera guy to wait at the gate with our bags. (He is trustworthy regular guy) then we did one safari from Karahndala gate. No Tiger. We came out at 6 pm. Left Gypsy and got into Tavera immediately and left for Nagpur as we had to catch Mumbai Duronto.
Gothangao to Karakhandala gate it takes 45 minutes. I dont know anyone at Karahndala gate.
I have never heard about Tents at Gothangao gate. But will talk to people and confirm.

From Nagpur Karahndala gate is nearby. I think 47 km. And Gothangao is some 60 km.
Safari you have to book on MTDC site only. Gypsy cost is 1500 I think. Cheaper that Tadoba. But Gypsies are in horrible conditions. Gypsies are old gypsies bought from Kanha. Only 2 to 3 Gypsies are there from Gothangao gate. There are more Gypsies at Karahndala gate and in better conditions as well.

Hotel The Nagpur Ashok

My experience was excellent there.
