bandhavgarh is a fantastic place but the overall community there is rather fleecing esp around peak holidays. Takes little away from the majesty of Tala zone though - it still is one of the best places to capture tigers in the wild!

edit: just had a chat with my friend navendu.net whose come back from both places:
fly to khujarao .. taxi to b'garh...book own hotel room, book tala zone on net and gypsy can either be rented on the spot/via hotel (tour operator is just if u have too much extra cash to blow)kanha, I'll go only on morning ... in eve its like a mela
scenery wise .... b'garh is a bit more scenic but smaller than kanha
SMASH!!!!

Having been to both Bandhavgarh and Kanha in October, I can confirm that Tiger Show at Bandhavgarh has moved out of Tala Zone and within the Tala Zone has now been split into 4 routes and each driver is given 2 of the 4 to drive each route. They must drive the whole route, so they can't stop for a long period if they find a tiger. HOWEVER, despite this, on both occasions we saw tigers, there were between 5 and 10 vehicles present and on the second occasion it was an unseemly scrum, with Gypsies bumping into each other and one going off the track and getting bogged down. Much more still needs to be done.

Kanha by contrast was quiet and beautiful. On one of our safaris we turned up at Kanha gate and we were only vehicle going in!! We saw tigers twice and on both occasions we were the only vehicle present and both times we were within 10 metres. Very special. Kanha every time.

If I have the statistics right, there are more tigers in Kanha, but the density per sq. km. is smaller than Bandhavgarh. Meaning, the chances of sighting one are higher in Bandhavgarh. Unfortunately, that also means a tourist rush, whenever one is spotted. Personally, Kanha every time.

booking online?

Hi All

A few people have mentioned booking park entrance to these sites online - how do you do this? I've looked on the tourism website:
http://www.mptourism.com/dest/index.html but I can't find out how to book?? Is it possible to book all this when you get there, or best to book entrance in advance?

Thank you

We planned to go to Ranthambhore in February but the jeep safari's are all booked up already so looking for alternatives, trying to make a decision about which park to go to.

Dear BB,

Did you even open the link? If you have, Please grab some coffee and do it again. In front of destination is a dropdown that has the option.

Hitanshu is absolutely right, you just need just a little more effort

When you open the link you mentioned, in destination field, the selected string by default is :Bandhavgarh National Park, just change it to Kanha / Pench/Panna as available in the list of values. Then proceed for booking as usual.

got there in the end thanks kshil and hitanshu!

just now working out whether to book or whether we can just turn up and find guest house who can organise entrance. Worried about not being able to get into the park if we go. Posted a question about this on a different thread so won't duplicate!

thanks again

Umm, there is something called core zone, then something called buffer zone. the ratio of big cats in the former to latter is 50:1 if not worse (atleast bandhavgarh). Frankly in the day/era of internet advance booking (getting done most weekends except peak summer), you'd be reasonably un-bright to expect to turn up and see game. Waste of money - why even come?

PS: Don't be surprised if you end up visiting something like "tala zone 2" or suchlike nonsense in the end.
