According to a report in TOI, Mumbai 10 cubs were born in 10 days & 2 more tigress are pregnant. This is excellent news.

Same here. This year I went to Bandhavgarh & enjoyed so much that I decided to visit again next year. Now I will have to include Pench also.

So where did you stay in Pench ? What are the safari timings ?

There's plenty of evidence that given protection and plenty of prey, tigers reproduce rapidly and populations can get very high - Bandhavgarh is a good example.

Unfortunately, this leads to emigration and that's where so many of the animals come to grief. Almost all the tiger reserves are effectively small islands surrounded by unsuitable habitat and low prey density.

But this is still good news, as it buys a bit more time for tigers in the wild. Don't be fooled, tigers are critically endangered and being lost at a completely unsustainable rate. India is really the only place where there is still a chance of saving them and yet despite more than thirty years of projects and plans there are fewer tigers now than then and no real sign of the situation changing. Very sad. Sorry for the rant!

BBC have shown a documentary (4 part, 1 hr each) on Tigers in Pench. It was fabulous and I am off to Pench this december. Cant wait.

I was there in 2006 and 2007 when 2 BBC's cameramen worked at Pench. They followed a tigress with his 4 cubs during 2 years. It was marvellous to talk with them, the first year, we were together at the same lodge. They worked a very long time during 1 day, maybe 12 hours per day...before that I could not imagine such a work. I hope to see these films in France.

Hello, it's funny because you are from Mumbai.
I travel with 2 agencies from Mumbai (I am french), go to these links (2 serious indian travel agencies) : www.nivalink.com and www.indiatravelite.com.
Fees are very different for you and me, it's very cheaper for you than for me. You'll see some accomodations and fees on these website.
In 2006, there were only 5 lodges at Pench but they built some since that time and there is also a new road from the NH which is going between Nagpur and Jabalpur.
It's very easy to go from Mumbai by plane to Nagpur and then you need 2 hours or lesss now from Nagpur airport to Pench.
try to avoid saturday and sunday because many people come from Nagpur and Jabalpur in 2007.
In 2006, I was alone in the park some days, only the BBC team was there. But it changed a lot last year, 20 to 25 gipsy per day.
