@ Kunal: Thanks. I am sure you agree though that no picture does justice to the actual moment.

@mmonami: Thank you.
@happyarun: The leopard is like, saved on my mind's hard disk! I can picture the moment we saw it with almost all details. It's a beautiful creature!
@saugata41: Yes. This trip made me feel... why hadn't I done this before!
@FUGLY: Thank you. Glad you liked reading it.

Hi Roxy,

Sorry for the late reply,

Oh yes you are right,After reading your and HappyAruns trip report Even I am looking for a trip around May to Gir,As they say that spotting wild animals is better in summer then in winter.Even though looking at the pics that you got it doesnt seem so

Kunal.

Thanks . But Kunal, we got all the pictures by straining our eyes trying to spot the animals in the forest and by tips from the rescue vans and other guides. But in the summer, all animals including the lions, lionesses and leopards come out to drink water at the water holes and as per the guides, you can spot them in numbers and get amazing pictures! So do go in the summer. Infact I am quite torn between doing Gir again or another Sanctuary this summer!

welcome to IM roxy....just went through your trip report...must say very well written...got to agree with happyarun on his comments of the pic of the leopard...what camera did you use....from your report it seems the authorities do have a "eye" on the camera to read the pixels.lol...do visit some of the other national parks too....your writeups would make interesting reading....cheers

Thanks vishwaguha. The picture of the leopard was taken with a Sony handycam. I have more pictures that I clicked with Fuji digital camera, but the zoom is not as powerful and so I got all long shots. I really kicked myself for not having the foresight to carry along better cameras, but it was a learning experience.
Yes, the authorities do occasionally read the mega-pixels on the camera, although there is no mandatory check as such.
We befriended a group of three German tourists and went for our first safari with them, but alas, we had to shell out 500 Rs per camera that first time, because even if there is a single NRI tourist in the same vehicle, the 'foreigner' charges are applicable. However we enjoyed the safari with them very much.
