hi
its easier to go from delhi becaause if u travel from varansi u have to go up to moradabad/dehradun by train and then to jim carbet np by bus/taxi only.
so its better to fly to delhi and then u can hire private taxi up to jimcarbet or delhi nainital( can stay here )and then jimcarbet its only 3-4hrs drive from nainital .

u can book forest lodge in advance ,dont worry about accomadation
that is not to much rush season.

stay in sarpduli rest house its good opertunity to see wild life from here

cheers

Ya- Raj is correct.Accomodation is never a problem there. From luxury resorts to moderate hotels..everything is available there. You will be spending good amount of money on jeepsafari and elephant safari but you have options to get ticket of GOVT. run safari also.

For getting a ticket-you have to stand in Q and for BIJRANI you have to reach at RAMNAGAR much earlier in early morning. I went at 4.0 Am and still found people standing there...some walked 6 kms where I was having my big SUV..TATA SAFARI.

These are some hurdles as permissions are not given to tour operators and agents. They will give you a form which will be having your No; and this makes sure that you willbe having a ticket.

After getting a ticket then you have to run for GATE if you want to enter in morning session and for that vehicle should be ready.
ENTRY is at 6.0 AM and there are only two sessions of 30 vehicles each.

JHIRNA gate is open all year except monsoons -so if you feel this is too much of a exercise for you...you can visit JHIRNA also and here is one more forest where I saw almost equal amount of wildlife as i saw inside these gate...name of this jungle region is SITAMARI ..somthing like SITA...

Ask anyone....you have to have a vehicle on rent. There are no roads inaside these jungles...do not forget to take HAT,WATER and do not throw any eatable outside your vehicle.

Do not come our of your vehicle..I have seen people coming out of thier vehicle and we saw tiger crossing road just 5 minutes before.

Have fun ! It's a real feeeling out there !!

I'd consider:
  1. Taking a convenient and fast train from Varanasi to Lucknow (LKO). There are several choices.
  2. Taking Bagh Express (3020) from Lucknow (LKO) to Kathgodam (KGM). It is possible that a special compartment goes directly to Ramnagar (your destination). You might enquire at the train station or an expert on IM might help you.
  3. If no coach goes directly to Ramnagar, you will have to take a bus/taxi from Kathgodam/Haldwani to Ramnagar.
Questions others more knowledgeable at IM might help you answer are:
  1. Is it preferable to get off at Haldwani (the previous station) than Kathgodam? I believe that's the case.
  2. The best way for you to get from Haldwani to Ramnagar. I am sure bus is an option, but do not know if there is regular taxi services.
Haldwani - Kashipur definitely has frequent bus service (as it is on the route from Delhi to Nainital, and Kashipur to Ramnagar is a short 45 min. Depending upon budget, plans and number of people in your group, you should consider hiring a taxi for this part.

My info is quite dated (as I spent a few years growing up in Ramnagar many years ago), but am quite certain this is a far better and quicker option (than via Delhi).

We did visit Corbett 4-5 years ago and loved it. I am sure you'll enjoy it a lot.

N.B. - If you decide to take this option, a couple of things to note are:
1. The Bagh Express leaves at 0:20 from LKO, which is rather late. However, it starts from LKO, so you may be able to board at least an hour ahead and rest in your sleeper.
2. Depending upon how adventurous you feel, Lucknow is not a bad place to spend a few hours. In your shoes, I'd consider taking an early train to Lucknow from Varanasi; leaving the luggage in Lucknow train station; checking out some sights in Lucknow such as the old British Residency, the Imambara, etc., having a nice late dinner and going to the train station for the late train.

All the best!

I would suggest taking a train to Moradabad from Varanasi. From Moradabad, you have plenty of buses plying to Ramnagar. You could also opt for a taxi. Going to Delhi is nearly an addition 400kms of journey.

I am not sure what is this queue or rush that himadventures is talking about, but I havent been to Bijrani side of the park. I have heard it could be crowded in summer though. Without any doubt, staying in Dhikala is the best way to see the park. Dhikala tourist complex is located right next to Ramaganga river and has great views of the river and the grassland. Being in grassland, wildlife viewing is great too. I was there in February this year and did not have to worry about crowds or bookings, everything was easy.

For train information again:

There is a direct train from Varanasi to Ramnagar, but it is very slow and not advisable to take it. Moradabad is the nearest rail station which has a fast train to Varanasi. Moradabad is on Varanasi-Delhi railway track.

I travelled from Ramnagar to Varanasi few months ago and was planning to book on Ramnagar-Varanasi train first, but was advised against it at the ticket counter since the train is too slow. So I booked a ticket from Moradabad to Varanasi and took a bus to Moradabad from Ramnagar. Similar way would work for going from Varanasi to Ramnagar too. There are plenty of buses between Ramnagar and Moradabad.
