Getting into Silent Valley; other Indian parks.

Hey everyone,
I'm interested in going to Silent Valley park on my trip to India and I read you need a special permit to enter into the park. I have a number in a travel book that says 'permits.' Does anyone know how this system works, do i just call and i automatically get one? Should I wait until I get there? How can i best check out the park for a day or too.
The same goes for Periyar, should I just stay in a lodge near the park and take a boat ride or does anyone know of any better ways to get deeper into the park. thanks a lot and if you have any really detailed information you dont feel like posting feel free to send it IM to me.

Generally, permit-type stuff cannot be obtained over the phone in India. You have to turn up in person.
Try emailing the Warden or the Assistant Warden:

Wildlife Warden, Silent Valley National Park, Mannarkkad, Palakkad, Kerala, Pin-628582 (Tel: 04924-222056) Email- wlwsvnpmkd@sancharnet.in

Assistant Wildlife Warden, Silent Valley National Park, Mukkali P.O, Palakkad, Kerala, Pin-678582 (Tel: 04924-253225). Email-awlwsvnpmkd@sancharnet.in

Hopefully they check their email.

Hi Tulsa

For periyar have a look at the posts I wrote about the rest house at Manakavala. Well worth a visit. Must stop telling everyone - I'll never be able to get in next time!
