Day trip Jaipur-Sariska or Jaipur-Ranthambhore?

During my stay in Jaipur, I would love to visit Sariska or Ranthambhore and do a safari tour.

Easiest I think might be to arrange something in Jaipur (day trip including travel to and from and a safari tour). Is this possible and do you have some addresses where I might be able to arrange this on forehand (for relatively normal prices).

If not possible this way; I can only travel with public transport, what park is best to visit and how do I arrange a safari on forehand than?

(other places I visit and where I might be interested in visiting a National Park are: Agra, Varanasi, Haridwar, Amritsar, Dharamsala and Leh. All in JULY!)

Thanks for the tips!

Is it during July that you are planning to visit either Sariska or Ranthambhore?

If so you'll be out of luck as I think they are both closed during July.

If you had a chance of either then Ranthambhore is probably better depending what you're after. Sariska is lovely but Ranthambhore is just that much better. I'm not sure about buses but trains go to either Sawai Madhopur (for Ranthambhore - 2 hours) or Alwar (for Sariska - 2 hours also).

A taxi to Ranthambhore will take about three hours from Jaipur, not sure about how long to Alwar, but not too dissimilar I guess.

I think Sariska is open through out the year. There are buses from Jaipur to Alwar.

Thanks for the correction Rajared. I didn't realise this but now you've said it I can see it's what the official site says.

Will the nature and other animals around there not be pretty enough for a visit, without tigers?

Recently they've moved 2 or 3 tigers from Ranthambhore back to Sariska: read about it here

Absolutely. I really liked Sariska and would have loved to have been to able to do a second safari there. It's a lot less hectic there than Ranthambhore, we didn't have to book the safari and just turned up and hired the jeep/driver and paid all the fees.

We law quite a lot of stuff including crocs, kingfishers (pied and common) among other birdlife, wild boar, chittal etc, eagles.
A lady staying at the hotel (the Alwar Bagh - highly recommended if you've got to stop overnight) did one safari and saw one tiger, one leopard and one jungle cat.

If I ever go that way again and Ranthambhore is closed I'll definately head to Sariska again. In fact whenever I'm close to Delhi I may well head that way.

I wonder how wildlife lovers will manage to find 2-3 tigers in such a huge park!

Ideally in Indian forests, there are 15-16 tigers per 100 sq. km. Still it is so difficult and tiring to barely sight a tiger....,
