I have seen forest guards patrol the gir jungles on motorbikes and even when we encountered a large pride during our safari , two guards stopped their bikes and were standing on foot very close to the pride. They asked us not to photograph them. The villagers there have learned to co-exist with the lions and many think lions help to protect their crops from Neelgais and other herbivores. But there are also many reports of lion attacks . So, no one can rightly predict how a lion would react to a slow moving cyclist if encountered. Take your call.

Cycling through Gir forest, safe?

Hi friends,

Well, I have been referring to the road from Dhari to Una via Tulsishyam. Its smaller road and very few vehicles pass there, and mostly lonely. I have driven through the said road a couple of years back, and all I have seen are few deers, peacocks and monkeys, never sighted any wild cat.

All those who have visited Gir forest, might have gone through Junagadh - Mendarda - Sasan route. Gir safari and Devaliya Park lies here. Its state highway and wider with on going traffic. I have driven through this road too but here also couldn't sight any deer too.

Thank you all for sharing your views and suggestions. Considering temperature touching 40 degree Celsius, we have postponed our trip as of now.
