Welcome to the forum krish11 !
I am pleased that you find this thread useful
Your permits will not be able to be booked in advance, but given that the park will be mainly closed, that should not present many problems.
Jhirna has lots of wildlife, including bears, and so does Sitabani, but the cover in those zones is very heavy, and so it hides the abundance of wildlife better, hence why, most prefer Dhikala and Bijrani.
One day, a few weeks back, many people had packed into Dhikala, and Bijrani, but nobody managed a tiger ! Ramesh was in Jhirna, and his party did manage a very good sighting, it was up close and personal, for a long time. Lucky ??
Your guide is everything
Jhirna is the best option open to you, and that should not put you off, because Jhirna is a very nice place to spend an afternoon. You will still need to book a jeep when you arrive there, that will mean more time wasted on the day, so you may as well ask Tigersincorbett, to make your arrangements for you, they know what they are doing(do you ?), and at least that way you are sure to get a great guide.
The weather should not be a problem, but then, who knows what the weather will do ?

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.
I know, it's going to be rainy season (1st July), and Jhirna would be the only park open in that vicinity and risk of safari getting cancelled due to weather condition !
@freakinda
As I understand :
Morning safari can be booked in advance. Evening safari can not be booked in advance and has to be taken at the spot on first come first serve basis.
otherwise can you pls provide website that you mentioned for advance online booking of evening Jeep-Safari ?
@FUGLY
Yes, I meant Jeep-safari + permit and one night stay in hotel
I will contact the site that you mentioned.
I have an extra day/night after returning from Nainital, so either I can go to Ranikhet or Corbet NP, I guess later one is better option to get a glimpse their and then may be in future I can plan longer stay their (including thrilling FRH )
Thanks.

Does anyone know anything about recent capture of poachers in Corbett ?
I have also had a recent information about a large male tiger in the buffer zone giving people a scare while out on joy rides on elephant back safaris in the buffer zone.

Hi all, I have been a little distracted of late, thanks for the concern Tigerman.
Poaching is always going to be a problem, like so many other things the answer is down to education. What medicine can possibly be extracted from tiger bones, or Rhino horn. The poor people who risk their lives to do the actual poaching, cannot be blamed for trying to earn a crust.
If only they would all stand back, and realise how futile it all is.
To the poachers from top to bottom, its all about a lot of money.
There is a lot more to be made from live tigers though, with each one generating over a million dollars in its life time. Why dont the authorities view that aspect. If there was a million dollars in a suitcase, inside a national park, there would be an armed guard watching it, probably two, or even more. so why not have an armed guard watching over each tiger ?
On a brighter note
try looking at this link. Sorry its not Corbett

Visited Corbett NP at Jhirna on 1st July.
Spotted Tiger (very lucky), herd of Elephants and Chitals (spotted deers). Safari was very thrilling, specially the loud noises made by peacocks/Deers/Monkeys when tiger arrives !!
Lot of people spotted tiger at Bijrani gate (right off the road) before it got closed for the Monsoon season !
Conditions for animals were not good, it was almost drought (mansoon had not arrived on time), rivers inside the reserve are seasonal and had dried up. There were small puddles in between on which other animals relied for water. Tiger was looking very thin (because of thirst & hunger I guess). We were hiding behind the bushes to observe the tiger but then other safaris arrived and started making noise, that distracted the tiger (coming for water) who started walking away climbing up the hill.
Recently heard that Indian court has banned the tourism in the core-zone...for the good of animals .

Around Corbett since safaris seem uncertain...?
Hello folks!
This is my first post here, though I post regularly on other forums such as Team-BHP.
I am planning to visit Kumaon end of October, and plan to stay in Kaladunghi (Camp Corbett) and Sitabani FRH. Would have loved to stay inside Corbett and go for safaris, but with the supreme curt ruling, everything looks uncertain.
Need some inputs/perspective on the plan, given my focus is on enjoying the jungle atmosphere, go for nature walks, and take photos of nature, wildlife and birds. irrespective of my itinerary below, what are the best areas to experience the forests and see wildlife (birds, animals) in the areas around Corbett? Assuming that Corbett doesn't allow jungle safaris due to the court ruling?
Plan
I have written to Ramesh to check if he can help with the FRH bookings. The DFOs I spoke to are saying that it is too early to book for October
...I just want to make sure that I reserve my place.
Btw, for those who like tigers: here's a photo taken this year in Tadoba

Plan
- 3 nights in Camp Corbett, with nature walks. Do safari to any Corbett region if that is open. Else, drive outside Corbett wherever there is good chance of seeing wildlife e.g. Sitabani area.
- 1-2 nights in Sitabani FRH.
- 1 night in Kunjakharak.

Hi there nilanjanray and welcome to Indiamike
I love the photo. The tiger on the right, has a look that says "I have a leaking wellington boot" and the one to the rear appears to be saying " Ask this chap with the camera, if could lend us some money"
Any pictures of tigers, being tigers, are OK by me.
I would imagine the tourism problem will miss most of Corbett, and leave very little bother for your request to be fulfilled.
The Sitabani FRH is small, and only has a couple of rooms, but I doubt there will be many clambering to book them, because it is not the best place to take jeep safaris. You would be better to stay in the buffer zone, and take some safaris from there.
Sitabani is not the best place at Corbett. If my geography is correct, Kunjacharak is over towards Nainital ?
I would wait until after the court ruling on the 22nd of August to be sure about making any Corbett bookings

Booking Train Tickets from outside India..
A solution that works
------------------------------------
Booking train tickets online from outside India
You 1st need to register with IRCTC
https://www.irctc.co.in/ and then "sign up"
Then register at..
http://www.cleartrip.com/register
When you are a registered user of IRCTC, please communicate with both IRCTC, and Cleartrip, through the email ID registered in your IRCTC user profile ".
Use the exact same details on both sites.
Now you will need to link both these accounts, and no matter what you do you will fail, because you dont have an Indian mobile phone number, and if you do, it, will most probably fail as well.
You will need to write an email, or ten, to both IRCTC and Cleartrip.
I suggest to add all the addresses to every email, and do it all in one go
EMAIL ADDRESSES TO SEND REG APP TO
wsoperations@irctc.co.in
care@irctc.co.in
railesc@cleartrip.com
What you are aiming for is to receive an email like this.

Dear Customer,
Please find email OTP and mobile OTP for activation:

Thanks & Regards

Send an email like the one that follows, or copy & paste the one below, and edit it accordingly.
IMPORTANT ITEM TO REMEMBER
A scanned passport (photo page) should be sent, as an attachment only, and the size of this attachment should be less than 1MB.
Please note that you will receive your mobile verification code through email sent to your registered email ID, as per the example above.

Dear customer services agent.
Please try to understand the following...
or forward this mail to Monica Jaiswal, or Avijit Mitra, (Executives), Customer Care
My name is ??????, I am from the UK or wherever ??????
I am trying desperately to book online train tickets from outside of India.
My 1001 attempts so far, have all failed, and my frustrations are mounting somewhat.
I have registered at Cleartrip.com (Your cleartrip account user ID)
I have registered at IRCTC (your IRCTC account user name here)
The email account registered for them both is .. Your address@here.whatever
My phone number is ... +44???????? but as mentioned already it is a UK number
I am unable to receive an SMS OTP from anyone because my phone number does not begin with +91
What I need is to receive both of my OTP passwords by email
In an earlier mail from IRCTC I was asked to send my passport details that this could be forwarded to the "correct department".
In accordance with that request, my passport photocopy is attached to this mail. Please see attachments.
I trust this will be sufficient information to complete the necessary formalities, and that I will receive my OTP's by email ASAP
Thanks very much for your anticipated cooperation, in what has so far been a nightmare of frustration, and utter confusion.
Regards

Hi tripsammy, I am a little confused as to which card was usable on which site. Nevertheless, I think things changed in February, re ticket booking, and now you need to go through Cleartrip, and you will need to create both IRCTC, and Cleartrip accounts, to book from outside India.
You are lucky though, because you have a good friend who can do it for you. But if you want to DIY, then I suggest you try my method above.
