I have stayed 2 times at Tiger Camp (2008 and 2007), there was no problem for me. Good hotel with indian and foreign guests.
But the best for Corbett is to book at Dhikhaka forest resthouse. It's really difficult and some indian told me that they have to pay "under the table"...

Dhikhaka?

Thank you didindia7, now could be, we arrange a stay with tiger camp.
But first I want to find some information about Dhikhaka. I made some search in goggle and I didn't find anything, I'll find some comments in Indians pages about Dikhaka, is the same?
In any case, nothing about forest rest house. Can you give me more information?

Yesterday I wrote wrong, read Dhikala. It's inside Corbett national park, the others hotels are outside and far away this zone with elephants, tigers (difficult to see). You should read others threads and find information.

Corbett National Park

Hi,

You can make your reservation at Dhikala only after 15th November. Most of the outside locations are overcrowded, try this underserved area Jims Jungle, i found out through trip advisor and was there on july 15th' 2008. Bit costlier. If you are here after 15th october, consider hideaway river lodge as well.

Hi

Reservation can be made well in advance, but the park opens only from 15th of November. But me being a regular traveller to CNP, i have come to know that since 2-3 years they make it open starting OCtober only!!(but they do not publicise it) Give a call to the Office in Ramnagar in the first week of october, and ask for an accomodation in Gairal or Dhikala. You will have to send a Fax to them to confirm your booking. I would highly recommend to stay in one of the forest rest houses, avoid Jhirna ( its still at a developing stage).

If you need any specific info do not hesitate to ask further questions.

Hi, Gairal & Dhikala has never opened before 15th November any time in the past as well. However that is the process of getting the reservations.

The accommodations inside the park are owned by the Indian government, and the tourist rest houses are located in Dhikala, Gairal and Bijrani, with Dhikala being the main one that most tourists utilize. You should consult the official website for the information.

There are commercial resorts outside the park. While some of them might offer more luxury, I'd personally not elect to stay in them - as a location inside the park is a non-negotiable requirement. Tiger Camp is one such resort.

Hope this helps.

There's nothing like that. I visit C NP almost every year ....
The only thing is that either you book the DHIKALA FRH well in advance (almost a season ahead ) or for current bookings against cancelations , you have to go and stand in line ( at around 3am in the morning ). Moreover I have seen that foreigners are always given preference over Indians. But if you prefer to book through the tavel agencies , they charge a bit extra.

The hotels/resorts outside the park are no comparision to the FRH's inside the C NP.
I always prefer to stay in GAIRAL rather than DHIKALA. DHIKALA is in a grassland. Gairal is inside thick forest. Previously animals use to venture into the staying area. Last year they have fenced it with solar elctric fence. There is no electricity and nights are really spine chilling.

So has anyone actually been in october when it is officially closed?
It'd be interesting to see if that's so or not.

hi vineet, it is misrepresentation of the fact on opening of the park gates for the visitors, let me summarise it this way,

Jhirna, southern boundary, remains open throughout the year.

Amdanda gate leading to Bijrani earlier used to open on 1st November, since last 4 to 5 years has started opening early, anytime from 1st october to 10th october, depending on repair of inside track for vehicles.

Dhangarhi through which one gets an access to Dhikala, Gairal & others opens only on 15th November.

I agree Gairal is one of the very interesting place to stay.

Hi,

Dhikala is closed in October!! It was wrong on my part not to specify Birani being opened from 1st October (which is also not a bad bet either)

Jhirna is more popular for Leopard sightings (not that they are easily spotted).

Kanha and Corbett are the best tiger national parks that India has!!..

Apologies for mis-representing the facts.

regds,
Vineet.

hi
I am planning to visit C NP on the 2nd oct weekend and will be staying at 'The Country Inn Resort' outside the C NP for 4 days

1. Has anyone stayed at this place. how are the facilities at this place and the staff?
2. I know that officially the place (C NP) opens on Nov 15 & I cant go to Dikala, but what would be my other safe bets to visit inside the park (like Jharna, Amdanda, Birani) and what could I expect at this time of the year flora and fauna wise?
3. How is the weather at this time of the year?
4. Any other Tips and/or advise would be highly appreciated?

Thanks
