Corbett NP in December
I plant to visit in December.
Can anyone answer my questions: 1. how many days to stay in the Park? 2. what acco to take (singleroom, 1 person)? 3. any tipps for wildlife trips, which guides to take? 4. should I take the train from Delhi or better a cab? As you certainly noticed this is my first time in India... Thank you! |

Sunny welcome to Indiamike.
1] Try to stay at least 3 days in the park. 2] Accomodation mostly will be double bed only. If you get bookings then Dhikala Guest House inside the forest is best to stay. Contact Details for bookings are Field Director Project Tiger Corbett National Park Ramnagar Dist: Nainital Phone No: 05947-251489 3] If staying at Dhikala do go on an Elephant Safari, chances of seeing a tiger are high. They are conducted at morning time & early evenings. You can also hire a jeep from outside the sanctuary gate with driver & keep there for 3 days to go on safaris. 4] Since you are alone you can take overnight train from Delhi. I think Ramnagar is the stop. Ronak. |

I agree with shahronakm.
It's a nice drive from Ramnagar to Dhikala. And seeing a wild tiger at dawn from elephant-back is one of the highlights of all my travels. We had a great driver called Mehar Ban Singh Patwal who was not only extremely knowledgeable but also generous. He invited me and my companions to a simple but delicious meal with his family and neighbours in his village of Puchhari outside Ramnagar. This experience is another of my best memories. Patwal found us outside the KMVN Tourist Lodge but I believe his services can be arranged from the Director's office as well. We drove by jeep and it was around Rs750/day but this was in Jan 2005. And I suggest you stay in one of the cabins in Dhikala, as the dorm leaves a bit to be desired. Happy travelling! |

Take warm clothes and warm bedding as it gets very cold there in late December. I stayed at the Dikluah village guest lodge (very tiny hotel) and it was quite expensive given how simple the accomodations were, but still worth staying there. Meals are also simple but inexpensive. Real tiger nuts do 2 elephant safaris a day. We only did one but lots of jeep safaris too, and saw every type of deer in the park, plus lots of wild elephants, birds, crocs, and I think we saw some river otters.

I AM GOING TOPench, followed by Kahna etc in the 2nd week of November wish to know if there are very active mosquitos there and while staying in good accommodation need to know if I should take a mosquito net with me? Also going on to Corbett at the end of November but assume it will be too cold there then for mosquitos - any advice I get badly bitten even here in England where I do take precautions.s
