Question Corbett Details Needed

Hello All,

We are making a 2 day stop at Corbett before we head on to Ranikhet.....
Can you guys answer any or all of these questions re Corbett:

1. What are the transportation options between Ramnagar railway station and Corbett? How long does it take?

2. Staying inside the park - do we need advance reservations?

3. Elephant safari - any details will be great - costs? point of origin? length of safari, etc.

4. What transportation options are available between Corbett and Ranikhet?

As always, thanks for your help people.

radz,

It is true.

Most of the national parks seem to close for the monsoon.

Sam371,
The main park is closed as of 15th June.Bijrani will be open till the end of the month......rains permitting.Jhirna is open throughout the year........they do have a ride elephant there as well.It would be best to do your bookings in advance.......when do you plan on visiting? The cost for an elephant ride is Rs 250 per person and takes about 2 hours........well worth it.You could go to Ranikhet either via Haldwani or the shorter route (with lesser service is via Kumeria.Ranikhet will be wonderful in the rains.Have a great time.

Thumbs up corbetts

we went in early june 2003 and all was open

there are only 3 elephants for rides and would advise the following for all.

best time to visit is early june as the water supply runs dry and the tigers come down to the remains of the river to drink. they come down early and late in the evening....therefore do elephant in the am and jeep in the pm. get a driver from your accomidation and warn them to an early start. arrive no later than 5am when the gates open and run to the booking office. you then have to run for a jeep to the elephant booking office and book in. TIP.. always leave your driver some money to get something to eat and drink, no more than 100rps, this will make sure he is there on time and always happy to help.

4 persons per elephant only, there were 3 of us and we had to get the guide to make up the 4 as they would not allow our driver friend to join us due to the cast system.

later elephant rides usually do not see tigers

pm jeep rides are ok but elephants are best. the guide and handler expect a minimum 100rps tip if you find tigers.

we saw 1 tiger on the jeep, loads of pictures etc and 4 when on the elephant. you get very very close in the bush to the tigers on elephant (within 3m) and you feel very close to nature and very exposed.

top top experiance.

si

ps only book this from within india through an agent, cost us about £30/person including driver for 2 days from delhi and accomidation in lux river side hut.

A Personal Experience

I was driving from Haridwar to Kathggodam when I cruized through RAMNAGAR.
Instead of turning to "S" - I took road to "E" and after driving on a six feet wide road-in rain- I got a feeling that I am wrong.

Stopped -Asked a local woman and she told me that I am 26 kms. deep in Jungle and I should better get out as soon as possible as being here in dark is not safe. ( crime ! )

When I started my journey back-this was most wonderfull scene ever happen ...two Cheetals with one kid-jump before my car. Just 5 feet away...i stopped and kept on watching them...they stood still...confused to see me and vehicle. I had stopped the engine...and together we stood in that rain for ( i think ) 15/16 minutes.

A lorry came and it's horn..let them run away !

urgent help on trip to Corbett and Himachal required!!

Hi,

I'm going to be in Delhi (from the 8th-23rdMay 05) and am annoyed with the number of the ridiculously expensive tour companies offering tours to Corbett on the net.

Can someone pleeeeaassse tell me how to go about organising a good 4-5 day trip to Corbett from Delhi for about 5000-8000 Rs per head. We would really love to stay inside the park at some of the FRH at at Gairal / Sarapduli/ Khannanauli/Halduparao, and not spend every night at hotels on the outskirts.

We are travelling by train/bus and taxi ouselves, but would be more than happy to spend a little more (no more than 10000 per head though for the Corbet leg of our trip) and hire a guide with a jeep.

Uhhmm...however, being pathetically disorganised we have no reservations and we fly to Delhi at the end of this week!
So these are my questions :
1. How difficult is it going to be to be able to organise a all-inclusive acco/travel/food/sightseeing Corbett tour from Delhi (any good non extortionist operators anybody know of)? How must should I expect to pay?

2. Alternatively could we make all the accomodation/travel arrangements ourselves at the last minute from Ramnagar or is it going to be too much running around?

3. My overall itinerary is
Delhi-Corbett-Binsar/Almora-Delhi (1 week)
Delhi-Agra (2 days)
Delhi-Dalhousie-Kalatope (1 week) - Any other off-the beaten track areas
I should see around here?

Is this itinerary feasible? - Any tips on nice places to stay / things to
see etc? I'm travelling with my Swedish boyfriend and want to make sure
he gets the most out of this 3 week holiday. We will be going to Bombay
(home-sweet-home) for 5 days after this trip in the North. So all tips will
be appreciated.
