Chandraprabha Wildlife Sanctuary

Hi,

Is anyone here familiar with the Chandraprabha Wildlife Sanctuary?

It is located in the Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh, not far from Varanasi, and is known around here only for the two waterfalls — Devdari and Rajdari — on the river Chandraprabha that flows through it. I've been there twice, in Feb 05 and Aug 06, but only for short day trips. The waterfalls looked attractive but on the whole the place didn't seem to have been looked after very well. No forest ranger or officer could be seen and even drinking water wasn't available in the premises of the only forest bungalow and a (defunct) eatery that stood there. (Although, I must say that the management looked a little better in 2006 than in 2005: the buildings were painted and we were given a receipt of the money we paid at the gate!)

Now, I am looking chiefly for two pieces of information:
  • Is there some available census data or documentation on the fauna at Chandraprabha? Maybe also the flora and the geography?
  • The forest bungalow there looks a comfortable building with possible arrangement of food by an old "khansama" we met. Is this place really hospitable? Is it possible (or even advisable) to stay there for more than a day? Where could the required formalities (fees, documents, … ) be completed in case one decides to use this bungalow? In situ? At Chandauli? At Varanasi? At Lucknow?

The place is very rarely mentioned in wildlife documents. Even the government web sites do not mention it. I could get no help from the Internet too. I'll be glad if someone gives some concrete information. But even vague pointers would be interesting.

Girish.

Thanks, Buck. But these three pages say the same thing (and not the thing I am looking for). Moreover, I wonder how reliable they are. I myself have seen the forest bungalow there, complete with nice furniture, clean rooms and a cook. But the thing was locked and I know not who has the key!
