Hi!
Does anyone know what fee there is to bring a DSLR and a couple of big lenses into Bandhavgarh NP this year, 2008? I've been in contact with a couple of lodges and recieved different answers, if any. If i understand it correctly the fee is depending of what kind of lenses/cameras you bring in, or did i get it wrong? In my case the biggest lens would be a 500/4 nikon lens, but if it costs a fortune i will consider leaving it at home. Any help on this subject is appreciated ![]() |

As far as I've ever been aware, camera fee, anywhere, is camera fee, and that's it. It only matters if it is still, in which case they rip you off some money for taking it in, or video, in which case they rip you off lots of money.
However, if your gear makes you look like a pro then I guess its a different ballgame altogether ![]()

Thank's for your fast reply Nick!
That's the problem, it's pro-gear but for a still camera. I'm a freelancing photographer and will probably have to pay extra for that. It would be interesting to know what kind of money there is, 250 rps or 25000 rps per day is a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiig difference. India is India is India That's the problem, it is a pro-equipment. And i probably will get "punished" for it It would be interesting though, to get any figures of what it would/could cost per day, it's a biiiiiig difference between 250rps and 25000rps. jvdv,
Not sure for Bandhavgarh but it cannot be very different from other places. I paid about 250 bucks in Hogenakkal for 2 still cameras and a video camera. Taj Mahal - video cameras Rs 250. Still cameras have a very nomial fee (probably under 100). Hrishi

camera fee.
jvdv
Rs 25,000 would be the camera fee for a commercial/documentary where a super 8 or one of those gizzmos are used. For any still camera, irrespective of which lens you use,the camera fee should not be more than Rs.100,(if at all there is any fee in the first place). HH |

Still camera is free in all the Madhya Pradesh parks. You have to pay if you have video camera.

People carry some pretty mouth-watering stuff around without being pro these days.
My off-the-cuff and, honestly, guess-work, shot at this is that the point at which you start setting up lighting gear, and fancy-looking tripods is not only the point at which your tourist's camera permit is not enough --- it is also the point at which sharp questions may be asked about your visa. And even putting 'photographer' as your profession on the visa application form can cause problems. |

Both me and my wallet like your calming answers.
Thank's for your inputs! Nicks concerns about both tripods as well as visa applications are well worth to take under consideration. I have not been in India for almost ten years and need to refresh my mind about all those things that can, and will make my journey much easier and hasselfree. This forum is a great starting point! Glad i found it! I noticed my second post finally made it through cyberspace. (in case you suspected a scizofrenic nature) |

jvdv, I post another time : you don't have to pay anything for still camera, only for video camera. You have to pay more if you want an exclusive jeep or if you want to rent "an elephant" just for you and some hours.
