booking dhikala forest lodge

I am confused about how to book a stay at the Dikhala forest Lodge. We just want accommodation, not a tour. we feel we can get our elephant trips etc when we get ther but need to have the lodging set. What website do we go to? As I say, we do not want a tour.

I have never been able to understand the booking arrangements at Corbett NP.

We turned up at the park HQ there some years ago, were told no accommodation was available at Dikhala, and after producing a letter of introduction from English Nature in UK, were given one night's accommodation at Dikhala. With the Director's permission at Dikhala this was extended to three or four nights. Wonderful place BTW, and worth making the effort to spend a few days there.

From reading other posts on this forum I think it's extremely difficult to turn up at the park HQ and be given permission to stay at Dikhala and it also seems difficult for an individual to book in advance by phone.

I may be wrong, but I think preference is given to tour operators, and this may well be the way you have to go. Perhaps one of our members involved in the tourism business could enlighten us on this?

While I did not stay at Dhikala recently the process involves calling the Project Tiger Field Director's office.

I had called them before my trip and was given a reservation number (which I dont have at hand) however the contact details for the FD are -

Field Director
Corbett Tiger Reserve, P.O. Ramnagar
District Nanital Uttaranchal

00 91 5947-251376 (O+R) (T+F) (00 91 5947 251489)
Reception Dy. Dir-00 91 5947 251489 DD- 00 91 5947 251332(R)
(DFO- Kalagarh 091 5947 1343-245288)

I have taken the details from the Project Tiger site http://projecttiger.nic.in/serviceDir.htm

hope that helps
