Bandipur in July Review

Did a quick in-and-out trip to Bandipur last week and I wanted to capture the highlights here in case anyone has use for this information (as I surely would have when planning).

- Used a tourist taxi to get from Mysore railway station to Bandipur, Rs1800 for the ride there and back to Mysore
- Stayed at Bandipur Safari Lodge, all in all an excellent value
- Food at BSL was better than expected, including plenty of non-veg and the chef took requests for dinner beforehand
- Rooms were clean and modest with great wilderness themes
- Evening safari was about two hours, five people in a jeep, driver/guide was very quiet and patient and we were rewarded with sightings of elephants (10+, including juveniles), gaur, chital, sambar, peacocks, langur, mongoose, eagles, wild dogs, wild boars...no tigers, but we did see plenty of tiger scat and even got a noseful of a fresh gaur carcass
- Evening campfire and nature film at the lodge were excellent touches
- We arranged to do a morning safari for an additional charge, we didn't see nearly as much as the evening before, but it was still quite a nice ride deep into the park

I haven't been there in the Summer, so I don't know how our experience compares to what you'd have in April, but we were very happy not to have much rain at all and to see so many things in the very green surroundings.

28 hours after arriving, we were back in Mysore, much richer for the experience

Maybe you would like to use the Journals Section for keeping this memory alive to be of use to others too.

Cheers,
Aadil.
