Bandhavgarh or Royal Chitwan

Hi guys!

I'm going to India and Nepal this summer, but because of the what we want to see and do, there isn't enough time to go to both Bandhavgarh and the Royal Chitwan (in nepal). For anybody who has been to both, which one is better for tiger sightings? Which one is less touristy'? And finally, which one has the best wildlife viewing in general?

I'd love to hear your opinions

Hi!

For Tigers, Bandhavgarh is a better option as it has a high Tiger Density. You can forget about the Tigers at Chitwan - only Rhinos there. Good Luck!

Tiger Sightings - go for Bandhavgarh, almost guaranteed in summer. Park closed from 1 st July.

So when is summer themn nd how do you spot tigers if the park is closed

Summer is from March End to June start. Mid June rains will start & from 1 July to 30 th Sept (Monsoon season) park will be closed & no one is allowed inside the park. Once rains start sightings are difficult & roads are in bad condition hence the park is closed. Just back from Bandhavgarh & had great tiger sightings.

I've not been to Chitwan but my son was chased up a tree by a rhino there. As far as I can tell the two parks are a totally different experience. In Bandhavgarh you'll spend more or less all your time in a jeep, except for short rest stops. In Chitwan it's possible to explore on foot with a guide. The habitat is very different too - Chitwan has moist deciduous forest and floodplain grassland, while Bandhavgarh is mostly dry deciduous and more open grassland. Chitwan is twice the size of B, plus it's adjoined by two other protected areas. The species list for Chitwan is much longer than for B. Having said all of that, if you want to see tigers, B is possibly the best place in India to do so.
