Bandhavgarh National Park

Can anyone tell me if it is necessary to book 2 days jeep safaris and accommodation in advance. We plan to arrive at Umaria on morning of 1 Feb 06 and spend 3 nights at Bandhavgarh. We hope to do a couple of game drives a day on 2 & 3 Feb 06 before departing on 4 feb to get to Mumbai.
We are just concerned that if we wait until we arrive we may not be able to book a jeep. Having looked on the internet all the accommodation lodges appear to be quite expensive (in excess of £100 each a night per person which includes a couple of jeep safaris and food) but we would prefer to book our own hotel and get our hotel to organise the jeep safaris for us. Can anyone recommend any hotels at a reasonable price who can organise the jeep safaris for our stay and do you have any e-mails or phone numbers to contact them?
Cheers
Lisa

When I was there two years back in December the jeep drivers were actively touting for business so I imagine there are more than enough jeeps for the tourists visiting the park so I would just wait until I got there!!

Try and get Salim as your driver he is very knowledgable and enthusiastic, He works out of the Kum Kum lodge.
He's very popular though so it could be difficult!!

Kum kum lodge is cheap but very basic. Its about 300Rs/night I believe. People are very friendly there as well.

MPtourism has white tiger lodge which was about 1000Rs but I found a quite hard to book in advance (ie phone calls/faxes/emails all went unanswered).

We went in December and just turned up to Tala with nothing booked and had no problems. High season there is summer, so in Feb you should be okay too.

I spent 3 days at Bandhavgarh in the first week of December 2004 at the MP Tourism's White Tiger Lodge. Outside of Diwali, Christmas and summer vacations, accommodation and jeeps should be easy to come by.

Unless you get special permission there is little chance that you will be able to visit on foot. A little dangerous for one thing, Tigers are pretty peaceful beasts but every now and then they'll attack a human being, the park authorities won't take any risks because of this!!

I would imagine you would probably have to be filming or something of that order to get special permission.
Get in contact with the park authorities and see what they say!!
