Hi!

Your best bet would be to fly down from Kolkata to Nagpur, and drive from Nagpur to Kanha. Its about 250 km, but takes 4 hours as the roads are good (built obviously for tourists). Cabs are available easily. The drive itself is stunning as you pass through the Pench forest on the way.

From Kanha, I'd recommend going to Jabalpur, and taking in the sights of Jabalpur for a day. Narmada express from Bhopal goes from Jabalpur to Umaria at 7:30, reaching you to Umaria at around noon. From Umaria, its 35 km to Bandhavgarh, reaching you just in time for an afternoon safari!

Heading back, from Umaria, catch a train to Raipur (around 6 hours journey), and fly from Raipur to Kolkata.

Excellent info

Great info Dyorel. The train route info to Bandavgarh is excellant.

Do you have similar ticks to reach Kanha by minimal road travel from Raipur?

BTW, heard about Amarkantak. Is that place worth a visit with family?

For Tigers best time will be summer months. It's not that you will not see any tigers during other months but chances will be less as compared to summer months. For Birding Winter months are excellent. Forests can be enjoyed any time of the year as every season offers something or the other. But since we are not going to travel every season it's best to go when the chances of sightings are more.

No matter how many days you go in a forest it's always going to be less. Still 3 days (six safaris) at each of the place is minimum what I would recommend.
