Part3

It was almost 8:30 when we got to the Ghat.
Being a first-timer we did not have any boatman contact details readily available.Got to see a few boats swaying near by.Much to our dismay a few other birders took it.They had done advanced booking it seems.
One of the remaining boatman asked us,"Babu, apnader ki booking kora ache?" ("Sir, did you do any advance booking?")
"Nope!" we replied.
"Kono somosya nai, sob byabostha hoye jabe!" (No problem sir,you have got your man Friday. All arrangements will be made!)

Ahhh, there is always a way, I had a sigh of relief.

We took three boats. All individuals took separate ones.On first glance, got to see a few Green-Bea Eaters. But with their constant zig-zag motion, I was clueless how to shoot them!Being a newbie with a long telephoto lens I found my confidence a bit shaken!

The first bird who got framed was a White-throated Kingfisher.Close to that found a Pied-Kingfisher.The boatman signaled us towards a Purple Moorhen. That fellow did not give us a chance, with his purple wing spread, he somehow concealed himself behind a greenery. The cormorants and the Egrets were full in abundance. But our prime target was further, the ducks, the geese, the herons.

A few yards afterwards, there seem to be a flock of Lesser whistling duck, counting in the range of hundreds.Close to that there were a few Black Headed Ibis,Glossy Ibis and Asian OpenBill Stork.
On inquiring about Painted Stork and Greater Adjutant Stork, the boatman replied a pair of the second one had visited Purbasthali 3-4 years back. After that, they did not return. The storks gave us ample time and opportunity. With our quench seem to be getting satisfied by the sights of these beautiful winged creatures we went further down only to feel a bit uneasy with the high Sun.I felt I might puke any time. With over excitement, did not gulp enough water and there had not been any munching either.Point noted,I thought and grabbed a banana.Poured down the bottled water and felt the uneasiness diminishing back.

A great post and fabulous photos. I visited Chupi - Purbasthali last week and was under the impression that there are no good accommodation options excepting the Panchayat Guesthouse. So we took the Sealdah - Katwa local at 08:15 AM and reached by around 11:30 AM. By that time, most of the boats were out and had to wait for some time. We did see, some birds like Pochards, Coots, Teals but if we had reached by 7:00 AM in the morning it would have been much better. The reason, I am replying to this post is to inform the members of this forum, that the Panchayat Samity has built four cottages just on the bank of the lake.
