Anyone have a tiger expereince like this??!!!

Ok,

So when I went to India we went to the Corbett Tiger Reserve. I was hoping I would see a tiger but also told myself not to be disapointed if I didn't. Well we arrived there and right away we saw tonnes of deer and the park was beautiful and very clean. Our room was full of huge spiders but we survived.

Anyways we went on our first morning elephant ride and we start into the forested area after walking through the grasslands. We found a deer leg and blood and the elephants started going crazy, they started trumpeting and charging through the forest and I seriously had to hold on for dear life. I didn't know what was going on. Then all of a sudden the 4 elephants had surrounded a tiger!! It was so amazing, we were only 20 feet away. The tiger was crouched down growling at us for 10 to 15 minutes and it was so awesome, but then out of nowhere the tiger started charging at my elephant!! It ran so fast I didnt know what was happening, it got to about 8 to 10 feet and swiped its paw at us and then took off. It was one of the coolest moments of my life! I only wanted to see a tiger and I left with one of the best experiences of my life. After when we were walking out we saw a freshly killed deer so that is why the tiger reacted that way. Apparently that never happens. But go to Corbett and you never know!!!

You had an amazing experience (as long as you're not hurt in the least)

There was a report in the news few days back... one national park had 28 tigers last year... this year 0, nothing .. nada ....

they will eventually go Dodo...

Yeah...this is hair raising stuff.

Well, one good thing is that at least someone saw some tigers in India recently. The rate at which they're disappearing from National parks is really alarming.

Thumbs up Dear Life

Jenny:

What a neat experience. Because of such experiences they have stopped elephant rides in the national forests in the south. When I was a kid we went on elephants viewing wildlife at Nagerhole Forest, Karnataka. When we last visited that same place we were told that Jeeps only are in use and elephant saffaris were a thinbg of the past. What a pity, in my opinion I would pay any amount to view wildlife from the back of an elephant.

I bet that experience made you feel alive and very mortal Jenny.
Strange ddevadatta talking about the parks in the South changing to jeeps because of this as only 14 months back some german tourists were attacked by a tiger in Bandavgargh, they were in a jeep and one was badly hurt I believe (perhaps even killed memory fails me)
An elephant is a lot safer I always thought???
One to tell the grandkids Jenny what an experience!!!

Not an experience to match yours, buy a strange case of a Tiger showing us what it thought about us.

It was Ranthambhore a few years ago, we were on a jeep safari and had been chasing trails for hours, suddenly we saw a tiger and 2 cubs, a great site, but the park was about to close and we were a long way from the gates.

So we sped off as fast as the track would allow, all was going well, but suddenly the driver stopped, there in front of us was a very big tiger, it was only about 10 metres away and was staring straight at us, everyone was whispering, god alone knows why, the tiger knew we were there.

After a few minutes of staring, the tiger done a number 2, then casually walked off into the bush, I wanted to laugh, but everyone else was so serious, the tiger was obviously used to tourists.

But it was a good experience.

This reminds me of an old Jimmy Jones joke.

A man goes for a job as a Lion tamer, he was shown what to do by the outgoing Lion tamer.

"You hold this whip in your hand, if the Lion comes towards you, crack the whip onto the floor once and he will step back"

He replied, "What if he doesn't step back?"

"Then crack the whip twice on the ground and shout at the Lion, he will step back"

He replied "What if he still doesn't step back?"

"Then you grab a big handful of shit and throw it at the Lion"

He replied, "What if there is no shit?"

And was told, "There will be!"

Wow! Great experience!

I found some fresh snow leopard prints on the side a mountain in the Sangla Valley. I tracked them all the way to a cave.
I was so tempted to look it, but not wanting to lose a limb or 3, I decided not to.
Still, not a patch on your experience!

sounds like a one-in-a-lifetime experience!

I am going to Corbett soon. Only two days, but i would love to experience the elephant ride. Was it difficult to get one? Did you have to share with other? I read somewhere that it's for up to 6 persons per elephant...?

Run Tiger Run

Cyber Hippie:

Yes a Jeep is no gurantee for safety in the wild. I was told that insurance for elephants are so high and so they changed to Jeeps, some time ago in the place I would frequent in the south. For myself I would also prefer riding an elephant, as uncomfortable as it is.
