Hi! As the title says, I'm looking for a partner(s) to join me on a tiger safari in early June. I'm open to Bandhavgargh, Kanha and/or Ranthambhore. I'm a solo female traveler from the States, and would love to cut down on the costs.

I am not sure if any safaris are left. All safaris get booked atleast a month prior.

It is late in the season, but you will find lots of safaris to go on, no need for pre booking.

Haha, you both said the opposite. Which is not uncommon! I keep reading conflicting information online about how to book or join a tiger safari, and I am so confused!!

I am debating between visiting Ranthambhore, Bandhavgarh and Kanha.

I have been told I can just show up to Ranthambhore and join a jeep. Is this true? Can I make reservations here? Is this the easiest option for a solo traveler? If so, are tiger sightings pretty good this time of year, or are they much more likely in Bandhavgarh and Kanha? Again, I've heard different things - some people say Ranthambhore is great right now, others say it is too hot for sightings.

The Tala zone tickets in Bandhavgarh have been sold out at the time I am visiting. But it seems that a lot of private companies are telling me that they can do a tour into the Tala zone with me. Does this make sense? Do they buy up the tickets in hopes that someone will join a tour with them, or are they not being completely honest with me?

Kanha still has quite a large availability of tickets. If I just purchase a ticket to Kanha on the National Park's website, how does that work? Would I have to hire a jeep? A guide?

Thank you once again for all of your incredible support and help. I am taking final exams right now in school, and feel very stressed by how much research and preparing needs to be done with such little time. You all are an enormously valuable resource, and I appreciate this site so much!

Kanha/ Kisli is best

Hi ,

I go for Forest tours 4 times a year. I have been to all the forests you mentioned before. Online Reservation is must if you are planning for Safari's. I always booked through MP tourism portal and not faced any problems till now. One more advise - Why dont you consider kabini/ Bandipur , there you can book the room is a resort and he takes care of safari's on the spot . No planning needed. If you want only in Madya Pradesh you can go to Kanha since there are 5 zones and a Safari is guarantee on some zone. You can also try pench instead of bandavgarh, it is less crowded and equally good sightings. I am also planning for a trip before June 15th when these parks are closed mostly in Tadoba.

Thanks,
Srinivas.

Hi

I am planning some safaris in Kanha around that time.

I have already booked 4 safaris, looking for nature lovers to share the safari vehicle and split the costs.

Safaris that I have booked are:
June 3, Tue, Evening: Sarhi zone
June 4, Wed, Morn: Kanha zone
June 5, Thurs, Morn: Kanha zone
June 5, Thurs, Eve: Kanha zone

See this thread

I can only talk about Ranthambhore and not the other parks that you have mentioned. I have been to Ranthambhore many times but never been to any other parks.

Ranthambhore is one of the most disorganized parks in India when it comes to Safari's. You will notice that there are two types of vehicles to choose from for your safari. One is a Gypsy jeep that is a 6 seater and the availability on the online booking website will show it being zero. This is because all the agents and hotels will book safari's in fictitious names and will sell them at a premium to their guests later.

The other way is in a 20 seater open bus, which is called a canter. A canter safari is not that popular so you may still find seats available on the online ticket website. The only reason a canter is not popular because there are 20 people and it gets a bit noisy. But mind you if a sighting has to happen it will happen in a gypsy and in a canter. So sighting wise it doesnt make much of a difference. A gypsy might be able to get more closer to the animal than the canter but both can not deviate from the assigned track on the assigned zone.

You can always land up at Ranthambhore and ask your hotel to book a safari for you. I am 100% sure they will manage (either on a canter or a gypsy) on the last minute as well as they have a strong link with the booking agents. But you will have to pay a premium. Infact you can also insist on going in a preferred zone and they will manage that too.

Or you can be a bit adventurous and do things on your own. First try to book online yourself and if you cant do that, reach the Ranthambhore booking office an hour before safari starts, stand in the que and try to get tickets yourself. If that also doesnt work, you will find loads of agents there who will give you tickets priced a bit extra than the normal rate.

If you have any other queries do ask.

Regards

As Deky, has explained quite elaborately about Ranthambhore. My bet would be on Ranthambhore.

If you check online www.rajasthanwildlife.in there are canters available in june, so if you interested book it asap . . it's just a nominal fee ..you pay the rest there

then land up in ranthambhore and ask your hotel guy if it's a possible to get a single seat in a gypsy..of course at a slight premium . . if you get it...great

if not..you always have your booked canter seat

all the best!

btw me there from 5-8th june

Thanks for all of the great info, Deky and traveler1!

I am planning to reserve gypsy tickets in Ranthambore for the end of June. It is not clear to me, however, if I, a solo traveller, will need to purchase all six seats in the gypsy or if I will be added to a gypsy shared with others?

Its totally up to you on whether you need one seat or the whole gypsy.
You can book only one seat, and you would be clubbed with others, a total of 6 tourists per gypsy.
Are gypsys available? I am replying from ranthambhore, its quite packed over here.
A tip...in case gypsys are available..book routes 3, 2, 5..4
In the order if preference..this based on current sightings. ..of course it changes by the day

Have a good one

Thanks for the awesome tip, traveler!!!!

If it is very crowded right now, then I will visit at the end of the month right before the park closes. There are many tickets available. I am worried that is an indication, however, that tiger sightings are not good then.

Also, does your suggestion of reserving zone 3 indicate that it is now open?

Do you have any suggestions for budget lodging?

Hey..sent u a pm..do check

Route 3 has just been opened ..selectively witj limited entrances

If u can come now and seats available....its better ..cause if u have a few showers...then sightings do drop...as water collects everywhere

Traveler, thanks for the message!

Zone 3 is showing no availability for the rest of the season on the reservation site. There is no availability, in fact, in any zone until the end of the month (like the 23rd).

This is a long shot, but because you are there, do you have any sense of how difficult it is to book last-minute tickets? You mentioned that it is very crowded right now.

I am in New Delhi, debating whether to take off tomorrow for the north or to head to Ranthambore.
