It is heartening to note that Hon. Minister had listened to the plan and the proposal. I think all the bird lovers would expect some concrete action in the matter. Let us hope for the best. If possible, please keep the follow up.

there's lot more to cheer for the people of dakshin dinajpur bcoz after angina now its turn for MALANCHA to greet the new winter migrants. There is a common saying among the people of dakshin dinajpur----
1. Hazar pakhir gram
angina taar naam. (june to oct)(kumarganj).
2. matasher jale
pakhi koto khele (nov -- Jan) (hili).
3. dighi bhora pakhi
shit e malancha aashi.(nov -- jan)(amritakhanda).

4. gram er naam sayedpur
pakhi te pakhi te bharpur. (june -- oct) (balurghat)
5. paashei ache tapan dighi
chalun pakhi dekhe ashi (nov-- jan) (tapan)
6. baan rajar kalo ranir naame kaldighi
chalun mora sabai meele shiter pakhi dekhe ashi (nov -- jan) (gangarampur)

There should be at least some kind of rough translation for our readers who does not understand Bengali.

More over, a little more details on the spots mentioned in the above post. Let us take the example of "matash" (matasher jale...etc.). It will be highly appreciated if some more feedback on (1) where is this place, (2) how to go there, (c) place of stay etc. can be incorporated in the thread. Thanks for bringing these little-known or unknown places to limelight.

.

namus: In the above post you have quoted six sayings of village people who love welcoming birds. Can you please translate these into English for someone who doesn't know Bangali. Can someone else reading this post -- who knows the meaning -- translate please. ..

I understand few: (I guess, I could be wrong.)

1. Hazar pakhir gram angina taar naam.
"A village of thousand birds, whose name is unknown." ..

4. gram er naam sayedpur pakhi te pakhi te bharpur.
"The name of the village is Syedpur, filled with birds and birds of different feathers." ..

6. chalun mora sabai meele shiter pakhi dekhe ashi
"Wish we all get together and go watch these wonderful birds." ..

"The name of the village is Sayedpur, filled with birds and birds" -- should be good enough .

"Let's all go see the winter birds".

Quote:
2. matasher jale pakhi koto khele
"So many birds play on the water of ???"

Quote:
5. paashei ache tapan dighi
chalun pakhi dekhe ashi
"Tapan Dighi is nearby, let's go watch birds"

Quote:
6. baan rajar kalo ranir naame kaldighi ..."
"Kaaldighi is named after the dark queen of king Baan (?)..."

Kalo = black (literally)

sorry for not posting any updates since 28th nov as i was very busy. our mla cum minister in charge, correctional administration, Mr. Sankar Chakraborty, asked to submit a project report on angina. i along with biswajit basak submitted a project report comprising not only angina but also a total project report on dakshin dinajpur where tourism can be promoted. we also submitted another report to our dist. magistrate. after 3 days we were called by the dist. planning officer and we detailed everything. he gave us 1 hour out of his busy schedule. he heard everything and demanded a soft copy from me and told that he is going to promote bhaluka (it is a place discovered by us in dakshin dinajpur where large varities of migratory birds can be seen. there is a large waterbody, marsh land, vested land.)he told us that he wants to visit the place and want to promote that place.

Really great news and welcome development! Hats off to you and your team for your persistence efforts to bring W.Dinajpur in Eco-tourism map of West Bengal.
