If you don't have it yet, you might want to hurry. Canon lens prices are set for a hefty increase effective Feb. 1.

Will be there after one month, I read the Tala Zone is the place to go, but at the moment for me it's difficult to make a reservation.

Thanks answering,

hi Harry, we made our bookings in advance. You have to book it online. If the entry is full, you can talk to the hotel they can adjust you in some other gypsy, if seats are available.

First time in my life I see a lens above 500mm at this price.. Haven't heard of the company either. Do you know anyone who has used this and even if something can be seen through that lens at that price, it would be great .

But let's not hijack this great thread on Bandhavgarh with another great lens

rathee, thanks for your trip report & pictures. Bandhavgarh is the place if one wants to see tigers in wild. We went there in May 08 & had excellent sightings. In seven safaris we had five tiger sightings out of which one was a great tiger experience where ours was the only jeep with the tiger for more than one hour. I always recommend people to got Bandhvgarh who have never seen a tiger in wild before.

As one of the group that accompanied Mr Rathee, I can vouch that all that he writes actually transpired.

Great photos, not only of the tigers, but other wildlife as well. You went in January, right?

Even Bandhavgarh can have periods of time without a tiger. In April, I was there 4 nts with all drives in the Tala Zone and only on our final drive, 90 minutes into the drive, did we see our first tiger--actually 3 of them. In the remaining 2.5 hours of our outing, we saw 2 more tigers, for a total of 5 tigers.

It wasn't just me that was unlucky during those previous 3 days, nobody saw a trace of a tiger during that time. But that's nature and animals in the wild. You never know.

Your tiger hugging the tree is a wonderful shot. What is the red thing on the Langur? That spotted deer stag has the biggest antlers ever!

Good to see that you have finally started writing about this trip.
This was one trip which I conceived but could not join myself in the end. I will regret not coming for missing the Bamera action.
This was probably the last time when Bandhavgad had such good sightings and after that Bamera started ruling the roost and selectively started killing cubs. When I visited the park about 4 months after your visit, I documented a very sorry state of affairs . See this Ambushing a Tiger - Story of a Teamwork with 2 Gypsies & what ails Bandhavgad today.

The last nail in the coffin came last week when the news came in that the legendary B2 got killed in infighting with Bamera. Many bandhavgad regulars whom I know have started loathing Bamera for his ways. But in the midst of all these negatives, I am happy to say that Kankati is probably pregnant or has already delivered her new cubs. Hope this helps.

regards,
Dr. A Ghosh
