Yes it has its ups and downs, casteism etc. Politicians are , well , politicains, the monsoon fails, the farmers drink poison,. Lots of problems

For me I have been[ in India] there before, not a Bhuddist, Hindu. Reincarnation?

The soul lives on.

What drives you to go to India?.

Please explain, then perhaps we might see the perspective you are coming from, and we can all move forward

I'm not moved by the spirituality of India, Pakistan, Iran, Ethiopia, the United States (a very religous country BTW) or anywhere, actually. I've been going to India for 35 years but not because of it's spirituality! I like the gestalt of India,: a structure, configuration, or pattern of physical, biological, or psychological phenomena so integrated as to constitute a functional unit with properties not derivable by summation of its parts In other words, The Whole Package.

I'm driven by an endless curiosity of a country that is fundamentally different from anywhere else I've been. It's not very complicated. I'm fascinated by India.

I am an athiest, a non-believer, I don't believe in a god or gods, (though I do have a special place for Ganish in my heart) a soul, heaven, hell, reincarnation, etc.. I just don't and I never have & probably never will. Millions of people around the world have their own religious & spiritual beliefs--good for them!! What can I say--I just don't. I keep my belief system to myself, I'm not selling it to anyone or expecting anyone to sell me theirs. Too many people have been killed over the centuries into modern times who think their religion is worth killing others over. I've rejected that concept. That's my perspective. That's where I'm coming from.

I think the thrust is that the discussion has moved away from the 'visa and passport questions' realm, and might be better suited elsewhere on the site.

India not complicated............... Wow , its the most caste ridden complicated society I have ever integated into. Thats 9 years of living there , visa permitting, and sundry visits for much longer

I Respect your views, respect others please.

This is most certainly not OFF TOPIC.

Sorry, that's not what I meant to say, I meant my reasons are not complicated. India is certainly the most complicated place I know.

Well, I'm with a lot of the things that camelgirl says; somewhere, in a long lost thread, I wrote something to the effect that India has a vast amount of religion and an enormous amount of superstition --- but I don't find it to be particularly spiritual.

That is not to say that I am not, sometimes, moved by its religion; it is not to say that I am not, sometimes, intrigued by its superstition, and it is not to say that India does not have a huge soul...

Is just a tad contradictory, i mean there is a belief system, like in a full set, or none at all. It's an old Buddhist thing, You say there is a point to life, i say there isn't. You say there isn't a point to life and i say there is.

Surprisingly that is also where the young sunspirit is coming from - Buddha, Ahimsa, non violence. As did Buddha she too has rejected that concept, is there any difference between the two positions? Perceive it as we will but there is no difference at all.

Paleface has a good point in that its the non-religious types that have taken the lead in numbers and ferocity of savagery. Lest we ever forget the many millions of victims of Stalin, Mao, & Hitler. Again, gup chup off the main trail but interesting..

I just posted something that reflected a complete misinterpretation of what somebody else posted - so I deleted it. My bad. Mea culpa.

Sometimes in the life things, even topics move tangentially, you may have noticed it, meaning we are not able to have it all so neatly compartmentalized. If we were to edit and sort and compart things constantly and completely then we will lose spontaneity, lose interest.
