What is required (beyond passport and visa) for International arrival?
Hello. I'll be flying into Mumbai from the US in a few weeks, and I am getting all of my documents in order. I am wondering:
What is required upon arrival in Mumbai, aside from my passport and visa? Things like: will customs official need to know where I'm staying, for how long, and where else I'll be traveling to? Any other things I should know/bring to ensure a smooth entry? Thanks! Justin Last edited by machadinha : Dec 10th, 2006 at 03:09. Reason: moved to visa forum |

I don't think there are any extra requirements. If it's still the same you'll be handed a paper slip on the plane that you're expected to fill in some details on. It's a formality and no one even looks at it I think, but fill it in anyway. If it asks about a hotel just leave it open, or fill in the one you had in mind, no one will check on it I think.
Indian officials are just sticklers for bureaucracy, a legacy of British administration many say. Comply with requirements without arguing and all should be OK.

Read the back of the form machadinha mentioned. Gives you some info on currency and customs regulations.
Besides the form, your visa and passport, you don't need any other documentation. |

Immigration: You will get a stern look, stamps on your passport and that arrival paper (they keep half; keep the other half and give it in on departure). That's all.
Customs: unless your pockets are brimming over with gold, electronic kit and foreign currency you will just get a wave through the green channel. These officials are always intimidating, especially in a strange country after a long flight --- but don't worry!

These customs forms on arrival are standard for all countries, not just India. If they ask your purpose in India, the answer is "holiday."
