Visit India for work with tourist visa.

I have an 10 year multiple entry visa that expires in 2010. I have been visiting India every year since 1999. I have to go to India for my company work for a week. Do I need to get business visa or can I just use my current multiple entry visa? Please advice...

I guess (and that's no more than a guess) for a week and if everyone (i.e., your company and the one you may be visiting and you) keeps their mouth shut and pretends nothing's happening (and doesn't make it show up in their books), it shouldn't be a problem.

The technical and formal answer however is and should be you can't work there on a tourist visa no. It's illegal.

I agree.

Just make sure you are only paying a social visit to any office you might happen to find yourself in.

Not that I would ever advise anyone to break or bend the rules when it comes to visas and immigration. Oh no! Serious stuff! And it would be a great shame to loose a ten-year visa .

Is the company you're working for so poor that they cannot afford a business visa?

Short answer, Yes. The risks you take is not worth you being denied entry in future.

Whilst that would seem to be the common-sense answer, it did occur to me that it would result in a dialogue about already having a current tourist visa, or, even worse, to the cancelling of that visa without even any dialogue.

One is not supposed to have more than one visa current --- but if they are different types? Hmmm...

If you are on a business or an employment visa, you can travel around as a tourist for sometime... and this would be the opposite situation...

I have currently two valid US Visas, a C1/D which I use when I visit to take over a ship in US waters (or handover one) and a tourist (is it B1? whatever) visa.

Wonder what happens in India.
