Canadian citizens can get a 30 day tourist visa upon arrival at Colombo airport.

Thanks! But is it better to get one in Canada before getting there? Ie do they want you to have one of the flight. The plan at the moment is just to layover at the airport on route to the India mainland

Nope, not a problem. You definitely need to get your Indian visa in advance however.

the strange part about that sri lankan visa thing is that if you are tourist you can get them at the airport however it does not specify how much they cost.. if you are going for schooling etc you have to get one in advance.

Any idea how much they charge you at the airport for the tourist one?

I went to Sri Lanka last year on a Finnish passport all I got was a stamp my passport for free. I guess that was my "visa on arrival".

I assume it is free or they would have mentioned the fee, but I'm not absolutely certain. It has been ten years since my last visit but I'm am pretty sure it was free then
