visas for irish travellers

i got my 6 month visa fine last year, but i'm going back again and want to stay longer. i'm teaching voluntarily in a monastery in ladakh, but i'm apprehensive about applying for a voluntary visa/employment visa because if i'm refused i'm in trouble. flights are booked already. i was advised maybe to try for a student visa to say i'm studying under the monks there. or i could get my 6month tourist visa and take a trip to nepal in september. anyone know how strict the embassy in dublin is on issuing different visas for longer than 6 months, what their requirements are (i've asked at the embassy, little help they were) and what you'd recommend?

thanks lots. a.

Highly unlikely you'll get anything more than a 6 month visa until the rules change (I believe Ireland was on of the countries soon to receive the 5 year 180 day stay visas) So it's a trip to Nepal to get that new visa.

The srudying with the monks requires a meditation visa, for the want of a better term. This also has to be applied for outside of India and I heard these requests are being scrutinised as to their authenticity!!

another concern, of course, is the cost. if i do have to travel to nepal it means getting from leh to delhi then to nepal, and as a voluntary teacher i know i'll be skint by september! any suggestions would be appreciated too.

... 'fraid so, yes.

You can only get a student visa for study at a government-approved institution, and you will need the paperwork to show it.
