Oh this sounds so familiar, I feel quite at home.
Recently got a call notice, 1 week ago addressed to Mrs/Mr Christopher Walt at my old address to attend the FRRO some days back. Wrong name, well incomplete and wrong address, still it landed at my office address so I figured that I would go and have a look. After much discussion got the stamp piss off out of here by err today actually on both my resident permit and passport. The lady incharge at Delhi said that for me being between the rules it was a needful formality and go see the Ministry of Home Affairs as you may not be leaving anyway. She racked off at some dweeb that put a line through their own visa extension stamp for messing up the passport as she felt that I would have my business visa reinstated.
So my wife and I have a consultancy company, since 2007, Both my wife and I are share holders and both are directors and this is what our visa's are based on. This would mean logically that we should go onto employment visa's which is fine, except who signs the letter as we employ no Indians in the company now. We did in the first year but when we shifted to Delhi decided against it.
We also have another company where we are both share holders and directors again, but this one is involved in manufacturing or reassembly, customising and exporting of Enfield motorbikes. So this puts us back in the arena of a business visa. We are in the grey zone as always here.
So the MHA have requested a police report for us which is usual before issuing visa extensions from previous years. So let us hope that they just continue with our 5 year business visa's as I have one more twist to the tale. I am also vice chairman of Keep India Beautiful, which is an NGO and is being registered as a not for profit company as we speak. I will be a director of that and employed by it as well. So here we have multiple jobs which is common in the west for directors anyway and one never quite knows how this shall turn out. In the meantime we are here, my passport is stamped but they were not really concerned that my wife did not appear and her passport and visa is untouched.
This place drives me bonkers at times.
