Does money into the pocket of a policeman mean it was a driving offence?

No, it's a Parking Offence. Traffic offences are running red lights, speeding, dangerous driving, etc.

Could actually be, in the right town. Some drunken oaf in Austin offered a policeman the contents of his wallet to be let off. 2 years for attempting bribery of an officer. Fool, that works in Dallas not Austin. In Austin you bribe the legislators..

In India the cop puts his hand through the car window, tells you what it would cost you in court, and enquires what you would like him to do.

And 50 - 100 rupees will do! Had this happen a few times (not to me in my car but when in another car and taxi has run a red light). It's cheaper to pay on the spot than go to court.
Interesting reading your post edwardesco - bribery is very much a criminal offence in NZ and OZ - maybe slightly less so in Oz..
Traffic police, once you're booked and the writing is done it's irrevocable. You either challenge it expensively in court or pay up.

Bribery is a criminal offence everywhere. Actual prosecution is a different thing altogether.

Its how you do it that matters as well. The discrete transfer of bills as opposed to the blatent effort..

Erm, I'm sure that you're not encouraging IMers to lie on their Visa application forms are you?

Because that would be very silly indeed. Imagine the trouble it would cause later if you were found out...

If it's not relevant, I don't see why one would have to answer it no. Yes, I had a parking ticket in '53, big deal.

If you're a high-level suspect on the run, of course, but I imagine you'd have other things on your mind, and besides would have your own reasons to not advocate certain details...

Only traffic offences that result in a criminal conviction ... does not include ticketable offences such as speeding etc

ok - in the US there are Misdemeanors and Felonies. And Misdimeanors could ba Class a, B or C (I think).
For example: a Driving While Drunk (i think its called a DUI) is a misdemeanor, not a felony. Would that have to be reported?
